I did the math and you should be able to fit 8 (NiMH 1/2 D's). Depending if I get the 1/2 D's from BatteryWholeSale That is a whopping 3.5ah 9.6v Stick. I am wondering if the 20watt bulb will handle such a draw? I have been told that the 20watt bulb is robust enough to go up to I believe 12v?

I doubt it would take it, Duke. Hot off the charger, an 8-cell stick would be 10.8V or better. I doubt the 5V nominal SL-35X LA would take 100% overdrive.

If someone has experience running it at this level, please chime in.

Wilkey, nominal voltage for 35X LA is 6 volts, and runs really good with 6 NiMH. I think can handle two more NiMH oK. I will section my old stripped SL35 for two extensions for two more NiMH C's, one at a time I will test. Who knows......

Oops! I'm sorry. Had a momentary mind fart there. You're right. Let me know how it goes. If it works on 7, could bode well for an even more intense MC mod.

The SL35 is a boat of a light, too big IMO. I am upgrading the stick in my SL20 to NiMh for imcreased runtime since I run the SL35 lamp in it. Absolutely love this setup, keep it in my truck. Doubles as an attitude adjuster too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

SL-35 will draw 3.6A using 6x1/2D
SL-35 will draw ???A using 7x1/2D Anybody has tried yet?
SL-35 will draw ???A using 8x1/2D Anybody wants to try?

I will more than likely try it but it won't be for another month or two. I think but I could be wrong but I think the mighty SL-35X would be able to take the additional voltage. It will be an interesting test to perform. That 20watt Halogen would be awesome to view while over driven! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will try it but using NiMH C's in a SL35X with extensions from a stripped SL35. Will take me a week or so before I get around to it.

V.H.,how test? Testing would involve a fair amount of run time, and some on offs to see if it would flash. I don't have any 1/2D's, so would need at least one extension to test with C's. Maybe I am tired. Help me here. I runs ok weth 6 C's.

Bill, you can use some rolled cardboard for temporary hold 7C and use low resistance wire from negative to body instead of cap and spring to run a test.
Unfortunately, I do not have a SL-35

I do, but it's my only one and I don't want to blow it. I would do as 5M suggests before you go further with machine work but it's up to you. Remember, the cells you use will also be a factor in whether it survives. I think it would survive 8xAA but only because of the massive voltage drop. 8x1/2D nimh, I'm thinking no but would be delightfully surprised.

Six 4.5mAh C's are pulling 3.5 amps in my SL35. I notice that increasing voltage in incandescents does not raise amperage by much. They really are voltage driven. At least in my experience. Voltage is 2.5 X 6.

V.H., I hear you. I was thinking a test with more real world use. Banging around and all.
