Any ideas for modding a Maglite 6 C Cell

I have always liked the Maglite 6 C cell and was curious as to how it may be moded. A lot can be said for a flashlight that doubles as a baton. Not sure why Maglite would stop producing it. Any suggestions on how to get more lumens out of it?

Oh yeah, have couple sitting around now. Well, one 5C with 6 subC's, driving a wa1111.

5C with extender,6C size, stuffed with 4xA123 13.2v which direct drives either a 100W 64625, 100w 62138 my favorite, 50W 6410 my other favorite, and a 90w 64458 which looks lots better around 20v.

Use 5 Li-ion "C" cells and some spacer.
There are any bulb option there such as potted WA01132 or 12 volt, 50 watt, 2000 hrs MR16

There are of course the regular sized li-ion C cells, but I'm wondering if 5 of AW's "C" cells would fit in a 6 cell light perfectly, since they are longer than an actual C battery.

Anybody tried this?

The AW's have here measure 52.6x5=263mm. think would fall short in 6C but with longer tailcap spring?

AW's pcb kicks in around 5.5A so what is power by 18.5v and 5.5A or less?

What brands of C cell nimh batteries are good and what do I want to stay away from?

I have heard nimh batteries have a tendency to discharge as much as 10% per day while not being used is this correct.

I don't think the AW C cells will work out due to the 3.7 volt output. I will be using Big D bulbs. I have to say fivemega's idea is of iterest except it seems the welch allen bulbs are not to easy to find.

I have the ROP in a four cell and love it. If you want something cheap put in a four cell mag bulb and amaze your friends. I know i may catch flack from some people but mine has been working for me almost a year. I love it.

Hi Jim,

What are you using to drive your 64458 @ 20V ?

Or was that just where you would like to drive it ? 6xA123 cells ! ! ! Long !

Do the A123 cells have to be protected from overdischarge ?

Thanks Pete

ps. Back On Topic: I run an IRC50 with 5xAW CLions for loads more power (~90W?). . . +FM-2" DeepHead or FM-2.5" TurboHead for more throw when required. Need to use the AW-SoftStarter C-Switch to avoid 2+Clicking to start (and you get multi-level option too)

The ROP-Hi is very good with 6xNiMh and an MOP reflector +Boro Lens - virtual drop in so much more affordable.

It seems the WA bulbs are the way to go but not easy to get a hold of. Light-Edge has a few flavors but whats up with the 2-3 week wait. I would prefer the Li-on cells over NiMH.

Pete,

First drove it on my bench up to 22.5v looking for flashpoint of this batch of bulbs. 22.5v was the limit.

Then drove 64458 in one of FM's elephants with 16 4/5A 2000mah Elites fresh off the charger 22.4vbatt. Would sag down after start. Worked on making a pak out of 18650 2600mah, 16 would fit in the elephant with extention.

6sx2p is easy to fit then I realized 4px2s 18650 fit in the elephant with deep tail cap, giving 10,400mah pak at 7.2v.

wa1111 @ 3.6A, 7.2v is over 2&3/4hours run time of 800blumens. Philips 5761, @5.5A, 7.2v is almost 2 hour runtime 1379blumens.

That's where I'm at with that wonderful 64458.

Yes, I would love a stick of 6xA1213 in a 7C, probable still need some length of extention. A123 have so flat a discharge rate burning bright up to the end it is my ideal batt. for mods.

Over discharge is no problem for them according to dealer. I did run one down to 0.4v and charged it back to 3.6v. on Aug 6th. today it measures 1.3v. going to recharge it and watch.

Thanks Jim

Just the info I needed - Ta

Back to the subject . . . !

The ROP-Hi with 6 NiMh (metal reflector and boro lens needed) is really great and visually seems to me very close to lots of the other solutions without any major problems like expensive chargers and Bi-Pin sockets to name but 2.

If you really want to use bi-pins like WA lamps then FiveMega makes some really neat adapters for PR sockets (he's just to modest to mention them)
Here G4 and more unusual Here Gu5.3 or you could go the whole hog with Kiu Sockets or AW-C SoftStarter Switch for all bi-pins upto Gy6.35 (see the pics in the Kiu thread)

Cheers Pete
