today, while browsing CPF, i saw a picture comparison of a white LED spot and incan spot. all of a sudden, i missed the warm sunlight color of the incan so much. i think that should be the color of a flashlight. is there any 1 x AA LED light that produces a color like the incan? preferably with a size and features similar to D10? i have a wee ns, so i might get the neutral white which seemed a lot like an incan :broke:

Maybe you need a McGizmo Sundrop? Great Color rendition, but you may have to break the piggybank for one. You could look into those warm tinted crees for a D10...(IMO)

No the Golden Dragon LEDs are from Osram. You could mod a D10 with a warm-tinted LED.

Try to get your hands on a light with a Q3 5A in it. I plan on buying a new D10 when they start shipping them with this very incanish emitter!

rayman,
how do i do that? the head of the D10 doesnt seem to be able to open up. and where do i buy a warm-tinted LED?

Try searching the jetbeam element e3p q3 5a. I think this is along the line of what you are talking about.

check out the Fenix TK20!

Neutral White LED Features
Cree's Neutral White LED features improved penetration power and color rendition with a color temperature of about 4000K, which makes objects look defined and full of detail. With a low color temperature and long wavelength, the Neutral White LED works better than cold White LEDs to penetrate dust, rainwater, mirages, etc. It also achieves greater illumination distance. Another advantage is that the cool white LED improves the colour rendition of objects, which helps a lot for the judgment of outdoor landforms. Neutral White LED still belongs to white light; thus, there will be no change to the original color of the object. According to practice and research, although Neutral White light is not as bright as Cold White light, it possesses the best illumination effect for outdoor activities.

wow.. it seems there are quite a few of such LED lights with incan color. but what is it with neutral white? the sample beamshots i saw didnt really look sun color, or maybe the pictures were not doing them justice? and also, i wish the replacement EDC to be not bigger than my D10, that is the max size i can carry in my pants along with my other EDCs so my pants dont get pulled down :D

They don't have one yet, but if you wanted to open one up, someone posted instructions on how to do it a little while back.

Like I said, the Q3 5A in my Dereelight C2H is very warm and I love the tint far more than white emitters, which are nice, but not at all like an incandescent.

My D10 keeps on being my favorite light to use and I can't wait to see it with a Q3 5A in it!

Cree makes LEDs in any color you want. Anything from a bluish cool white (9000k -- similar to blue sky) to a very warm white (2600k -- similar to a stock maglite on half-dead batteries), and everything in between.

I personally believe that 5A, or a neutral white color at around 4000k is the best -- this is roughly in between the color of the LEDs and incans you are probably used to. IMO is the best of both worlds.

However, if you want something comparable to the incans you currently have, a CREE LED in the 7x range is what you will want.

I like the warm color of incandescent also, but it's not nearly as good for color rendition as a nice creamy white LED. SHine that incandescent around a room, then shine a white LED flashlight around the same area, and you'll see that the colors appear to be crisper with the LED.

I love the 5A crees. They are a neutral white color, depending on what you've been looking at all day (computer monitors, florescent lighting, sunlight, incan) its tint will appear a little different until you get adapted to it. Usually it will either look pure white, or slightly pink. The color I think is best matched to late afternoon sunlight. It has no "incan yellow" to it, but the additional red in the light makes it much more pleasant to use, especially outdoors.

I'm looking for some cree Q2 or Q3 with a 5A tint mounted on 15 or 16mm boards to mod my D10 for the exact same reason, if anyone knows how i might get some I would be the happiest guy here! Group buy maybe?

The D10 can be opened, a little tricky the first time but once you've done it's much easier.

I recently bought a dereelight P60 drop-in with a Q2 5A and it's instantly replaced all other LED lights i have, combined with a bored out Surefire 6P for a 18650 and it's beautiful!

I picked up a 1SM 1-mode and 3SM 3-mode Dereelight 5A, and surprisingly the 3 mode on high is the brighter of the two. The color is beautiful.

Why is the 5A tint getting all of the attention, is that the tint Dereelight has easiest access to? I think that the 3B and 3C (according to the chart) look more pure-white and are closer in color temperature to Noon-day sun than the 5A is. I have some High-CRI SSCs, and while I like the CRI, the CCT is just too low for me. I fear that the 5A Cree is also lower than I would like. I suppose that means I prefer light with a CCT somewhere in the vicinity of 4500K.

Speaking of tint bins, where are the Seoul SUN and ST0 tint bins at? It seems like I can get cooler or warmer than I like, but those perfect (on paper) tints are not available...

Any inova Tx-MP light gives off a very good color rendition close to that of an incan (K2 TFFC emitters are the reason why).

Because the 3SM is driven at 1.2A vs. 1.0 A

THey are upgrading the 1SM to 1.2A and I shall get one in a week or two. It is nice to know my time spent impatiently waiting will be visibly worth it.
