Any Leica's in here..?

When I was all hot n heavy into photography I did some serious contemplating about acquiring Leica products. The day I chose to remain a hobbyist and not attempt to go pro was the same day I chose to forgo the cost of Leica products.
Surely one does not have to be a "PRO" to use and own a LEICA Camera..! They make some serious quality Cameras no doubt..

Well you don't have to be a pro to own them. Just rich! Holy hell. They are up there.
I know they had some great & very desirable products back in film days, but nowadays I dont see the value of the higher price tag when the electronic internals are the same in all cameras anyway. All the big manufacturers can make equally excellent glas these days, be it cannon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, Zeiss... That goes for camera lenses, binoculars, microscopes, scopes... I think the days where Zeiss&Leica were the cream of the crop have been over for a long time.
Back when I did some photography I always wanted to get started with Medium format & one of these Hasselblads like the ones they used on the moon. And just like Mr fixer im glad I didn't.

Back when the Panasonic digicam the Z8 was new I looked hard at the Leica version. Algorithms by Leica propellerheads reportedly provided tremendous upgrades to the quality of photographs in good lighting but since it shared the same sensor as the Panasonic noise was an issue in shadows and anything less than bright light. I shot mostly nature photos back then so getting noise free shadows mattered.
I used digicams back then while the digital media matured and once that had reached a level I was comfortable with I jumped in on DSLR gear, bought a few cameras, some lenses and other modern accessories. When the camera industry pixel wars was in full rage I picked a level I liked and sat on the sidelines while my collegues were clamoring for more more more. By then Leica was not even on my radar.
I used digicams back then while the digital media matured and once that had reached a level I was comfortable with I jumped in on DSLR gear, bought a few cameras, some lenses and other modern accessories. I would love to have a Leica just for the tactile sensation of holding, admiring and using such a high quality piece but it would just be for fun. Very exclusive and expensive fun.
Quite honestly I am still trying to get an idea on how to get a decent shot with the rangefinders I have. Yes the Type SL and SL2 that I both own are not rangefinder and have no issues with them... I just wanted a couple nice Leica's to call my own....

This is what I used to shoot with. I think it still has a roll of 120 with 5 exposures left.

As others have said, the price is an issue. And for pro use they have been sidelined for a long time. Before TV & Movies I worked in commercial photography for a while - ads, fashion, product photos, material for websites, etc. Never once saw or heard of a Leica being used on a pro job. Mostly Canon, some Nikon & Sony, and then Phase One on big-budget or really technically demanding jobs. Fuji medium format (well, semi-medium format) was just beginning to creep in when I left stills. While in school I was doing journalism work and shooting for local magazines, never saw Leica there either. Mostly Canon, some Nikon.
Leica doesn't really do zooms and shooting macro or tilt shift on a rangefinder is impossible. So that puts them out of the running in a pro's bag. Unit stills photographers on movies and TV usually use some form of mirrorless, so you could do that on Leica, but I have yet to see it.
Where I did see them A LOT was from fine arts students and camera club guys in the school darkroom. I stuck to Nikon since I could share one big set of lenses on my analog and digi bodies.

The camera niche is like the flashlight niche times 1,000,000.
You need a camera bag full of pro gear and you gotta take photos of your gear with your gear with props in the background.
Then you gotta use lightroom and photoshop to enhance the photos taken with your pro gear.
Then you have to make sure everyone knows you have lots of gear.

boy you got that and I am the king of camera porn.. Flashlights are cheap compared to High End Camera goodies and the more the better.. Even lightroom is not required if you just keep it in the boxes like flashlights...
