I'm curious about the upcoming Fenix TK40 and wondered if anyone has seen/handled it at Shot or elsewhere. I've seen the one pic http://www.aditnow.co.uk/supersize/Personal-Album-2-Image-131/ and want more.

Is the LED the CREE MCE?
What does the reflector look like?
How well is it heat-sinked?
What is the beam like?
What batteries and how are they configured?

Specs people! We need specs! :faint:

Edit: Would this be the upgrade from TK11R2 or TK20?

Found this:

The first that I saw and that they demonstrated was their new TK40. It utilizies 8 AA batteries to power the Quad Core Cree LED light. It puts out 630 lumens of light for a little over an hour, but that's not enough. Even now, they are working on a slight up grade which should be out in March and puts out 730 lumens. With an MSRP of roughly $150.00 U.S., it's a lot of light for a great value. If it's anything like some of the previous lights that we have reviewed from Fenix, this could be one of the most exciting LED lights to come out during the SHOT Show.

SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The MC-E is basically 4 CREE LED's packed into the same size emitter. Relatively 4x the output.

the price is right and it's bright.

If you take the SEARCH!!! out of that post. It saved someone the time of trying to figure out exactly how to work a search phrase.

Not everything requires a search. I would know.

It's neither a TK11R2 or TK20 upgrade, this is an entire new animal. It will be a larger light, it may or may not throw as well as a TK11R2 (we'll have to see what kind of beam it produces with their reflector).

I'm hoping they design a good reflector that produces a clean beam with a large hot spot and bright spill. Basically a floody beam, with moderate throw. We'll see what it ends up doing.

I'm curious about this new light and I'm not above temptation! :) 8 x AA cells seems like a pain to me, though. Using Eneloops would hold the cost of batteries down, but you'd still have to have at least 16 of them in order to have a spare set of batts ready. You might also need a new charger or two.

there has better be a low mode! :tinfoil:

fenix should make this into a rechargeable light, with a custom battery pack of li-ion or nimh complete with charging station...

Does this light exist. Where can I find it.

Re: TK40 (Fenix): Anyone handle it at Shot or otherwise?

Me thinks they want to keep the price down, to peak interest and get more Noob flashaholics(like myself) into the hobby. I mean $150.00 for a quality(hopefully)product. Then they will most likely make it a rechargeable, and then charge $250.00.

It is rechargeable already. Eight NiMH cells and you're good to go for 730 guilt free lumens.

There are already a plethora of 1x and 2x 18650 P7/MC-E lights out there. This should make the first AA powered one, and having a 2D form factor vs the long skinny with big turbo head is a welcome change.

Re: TK40 (Fenix): Anyone handle it at Shot or otherwise?

I'm ready for the TK40 because I have 30 eneloop AAs and 4 chargers (each has 4 charging bays):D.

The Sanyo "power packs" seem to jump into my shopping cart every other time I visit Costco. I should own stock in this store.

So no CPFer has visited Shot! This can't stand. I propose that an annual delegation be appointed to make the trek.

Come on four7s and Mike (Pacific Tactical) you can tell me about your finds at SHOT and no one else will know or pester you about it:).

Interesting that Fenix soon will offer an 8AA flashlight some few months after I made my own Fenix 8AA:

But the flashlight at the picture above isn't the same as the model of the picture in this link:

I'm going to start saving now!!!!

I agree completely that those long skinny bodys are lame, a fatter, shorter 8AA is a welcome offerring!

Re: TK40 (Fenix): Anyone handle it at Shot or otherwise?

8XAA's? Thats going to be a pain in the arse to charge, especially if you have a charger that can only charge two AA's at a time!!
Not to mention expensive to buy 8X rechargeable AA's!!!!
Its also going to be expensive if you want to have backup batteries, 16 batteries total! :|

Starting to realise why this hobby is so expensive.
