Hi,

I've given all the threads on my Fenix lights a real good clean with Iso alcohol and would now like to lube them all.

Being in the UK, we can't et some of the various name products that are mentioned on CPF.

I have found these products, and wondered if any of them would be suitable for my intentions.

Anyone have any ideas as to which would be the best?

Many thanks,

Face

Simple and cheap solution: silicone grease. The "plumber's" stuff available for cheap at hardwear stores is the best deal.

If ever your flashlights starts to flicker, you might have put too much, if you get it on a conducting surface be careful to wipe it all off.

I used WD40 on my lights, I don't know if it is available in uk? It seems to be a french product.

This one sounds good (esp since it says it's good for electrical contacts) if it has no petroleum distillates which harms rubber O rings; but I couldn't find this information on their web page:

Multi Purpose SiliconeGrease ·lubricates, waterproofs, insulates and preserves electrical and electronic equipment ·high surface resistivity ·ideal for switch contacts, ignition systems and eht connections ·operational from -5c to +200c ·order code re92a recommended for...

RE90X Silicone Grease 50g 34 in Stock £3.73

Here's what I use ...

eBay.co.uk: Silicone Grease

Silicone grease is difficult to get a hold of in the UK as not many places stock it. Plumbers use washing up liquid for lubricating o-rings and joints.

Here you are:

Or you can get it from any dive shop. Divers use silicone grease, and unlike most other users, their lives depend on their O-rings not failing. A 25gm tube will cost ~£6 and will last you a long time.

Do NOT use WD40, or any petroleum-based products. Not washing-up liquid, either!

£6 for less than an ounce is taking the Michael by anyone's standard. I use Krytox or Christolube oxygen safe greases on mine, but only because I've got plenty. That costs 4 times as much.

Google for Dow Corning Silicone grease, it's what I used to use externally on rebreathers.

Either of the top two are fine, spray some onto your fingers to put on the threads otherwise it's everywhere:)

Depends on the material of the O ring what you can use with it, if it's silicone Vaseline won't hurt.

Crazy to use this with a rebreather – you should only use oxygen-compatible grease such as Krytox GPL 205 for r/b applications, whether scc or cc.

Quite agree with what you say, I should have been specific. I used silicone on those parts that didn't come into contact with O2 or mixed gas. Krytox or Christolube were used for internal lubrication.:) Sorry for being misleading. (Original post edited to avoid confusion)

My main point is you don't breathe through a flashlight so although silicone is fine for lubing the O rings of a flashlight it doesn't have to be scuba or food quality and is in fact a waste of money:) .

Sice i didn`t want to order somthing again ( ordered max. falcon backpack , lansky diamond deluxe sharpenig system and fenix lights within the last 2 weeks ) i looked around the house to find something . So i did when opening my tacklebox --silicon based reel lube in perfect applicator ;) Search your stuff you`ll find a lot of useful and long forgotton stuff ;):sssh:

Battery Junction had their Nyogel 760G Synthetic Hydrocarbon Grease for flashlights on sale a couple of weeks ago. $5.95 for the 57 gram tube.

I bought a tube and tried it. Works pretty well. It is also UV flourescent if you have a UV light. Great for checking for eveness of application and when its time to re apply.

I don't know if they offer international shipping.
