Hello there.

(this is my 3rd post so far and English is not my primary language)

I'm currently in search for a small and versatile 1xAA light, to be given as a gift to my friend.
It should be compact enough to be EDCed in a pocket comfortably, maybe even keychain-sized.
I guess, he'd use it to work at close distances (he's dealing with industrial equipment and frequently needs to inspect something up close).
The light should be rugged enough to withstand everyday usage, of course.
Extra lumens would be nice but this isn't top priority for him (somewhere in the range of 100 Lm will do just fine).
UI: Something simple enough but versatile. I just love my H51's UI!
Flood vs Throw: i think he'd prefer a floody light with an XML-like wide hotspot. (and he already has an ArmyTek Predator for teh thr0w!)

I myself have a ZL H51 as my EDC and am very happy with it, though I haven't modded it so far (plan on doing this ASAP =^_^= - it's a very versatile light).

I'm living in Moscow, Russia, and the locally available brands are: Armytek, Fenix, Olight, Zebralight for the most part. I see a lot of people carrying Fenix lights, and already bought some PD32s as gifts. I don't mind buying the light on Ebay, either.

As for the price: I'm expecting something around $100, but can go slightly higher. First of all, I'm seeking a quality flashlight that can be relied upon.
Some good candidates that come to my mind are:

Fenix E5
Quark AA MiNi
HDS lights (?)

Thanks a lot,

Thanks a lot,
Wildy.

For a non-native speaker, you put a lot of native speakers to shame!

Sorry, forgot to say I support the above as well!

Checkout the Fenix e11, i like its simple UI click on and off and tighten head for high loosen head for low, can't be much simpler. Also some small AA twisties might be hard to operate with gloves. You can get him 3 lol.

I would get the Fenix LD12. I have the LD10 and i think the new one would be even better with the side mode switch 🙂

Imagine if it had three switches- one for on/off, one to select output, & the third to cycle through your emergency/attack flashing modes.

One day.

Yes, I forgot SC51*.
Any other good candidates?

The Fenix LD15 is about the same size as the Quark Mini AA, but with two modes. It has a somewhat floody beam and decent brightness, around 110lm.

For any single AA light you are considering, always check if it can take a 14500. Because if ever you need more "punch" for your light, pop in the 14500 cell, and get about double the output. Good thing about this, if your 14500 runs out, you still have the flexibility to use any AA you may find.

two birds with one stone!

ive read somewhere fenix will be releasimg new models somewhere in march or april. Maybe you should wait for their release before committing yourself.

sent from my mob. Excuse misspelling. thanks!

I'm currently in search for a small and versatile 1xAA light...

HDS lights (?)

HDS is out... they don't support the AA format.

I'd also put the regular Quark AA on the list if you like the moonlight on your ZL. I have the H51w and QAA as my EDC lights, and for some reason, I just carrying the Quark more.

Also have the Preon Revo as my key chain back-up, which is nearly the same as the Quark Mini (even in terms of lumens/runtimes), except it's a AAA. But I think I just like the clickies the best.

I would also suggest at least checking out the Quark AA regular. It will give you the 100lms and is way under $100.00. It can also handle a 14500 which really bumps up the turbo mode.

Thank you guys for the info, I'll look ahead for the SC51. I think I'll have a chance to drop by a local dealer which has both ZL _and_ Quark. So I'll be able to see both personally 🙂

Sidenote: I do really like my new H51 🙂
