Any rumors as to when we will see a fenix mc-e or p7 light?

8xAA?? Why not 3x18650 or 4xCR123?
Many are hoping for a 3x18650 option as well, or a slightly different model for this configuration. I think the TK11 has been popular enough that Fenix has not given up on 18650. We'll have to get 4Sevens to spill the beans.

They really need to add a 3rd output of super low. I keep going to a different light (ie - Olight M20) b/c a super low would be great for camping, preserving night vision, etc.

8AA sounds very interesting.
The TK part makes me wince though. I've not been impressed by the TK line thus far. I'd much rather have a PD type UI on an MCE light. (and an 18650 or 2x 18650 model MCE light as well.

And for the love of all that's blue and green yes please get a 5A (or thereabouts) tint MCE light on the market!

I would be pretty excited about that UI, but on this light I think I would prefer Loosen head: 10-60-140 / Tightened Head: MAX

By keeping the tightened position 1 level it fits Tactical applications better and is similar to existing T series.

I hear you, but IMO 700 lumen is too much for a "bump in the night" light. Even turning on my 180 lumen M30W in my room at night can be too much if my eyes are fully night adjusted. 700 lumen in those conditions would do more harm then good IMO.

For me, high power lights are for outdoors/camping use. In those conditions I like plenty of modes so I can stretch out battery life by using just as much light as I need.

Probably because outside CPF, people want regular batteries, and Fenix's sales figures probably show that trend.

Also, with 8xAA they are pretty much alone on the market as opposed to the 18650 and CR123 form factor. How many bright 8xAA power lights do you know? PT Surge, but that was long ago and it is incan, something different.

The thing about multi AA's is the ability to run normal alkies at a sensible load on each cell.... I had an idea for a 16xAA light a while back- 4s4p. 1A to the emitter would be about 200ma draw on each cell.... great for non-flashaholics, just load it up with four 4 packs of duracells, and bang, you're good for a lot of hours of a lot of light. It wouldn't have been that different in form factor to a mag, either, so most non-flashaholics wouldn't have minded the size. But then, they would have minded the price :/

That light is AWESOME!! I for one am still on the AA bandwagon and like that Fenix has a variety of lights available in AA. Probably 80% of those on this forum have at least 16AA (rechargeables) sitting in ready right now, which is twice what you need for this light. Those who really want the 18650 can likely find an adaptor with 12 months if this flashlight hitting the market.

What I like best is they are REALLY going to drive the light to its potential. What I mean is even with that new JetBeam M1X, it's not 700 lumen as they are trying to deceive you to believe, it's a max of 450 lumen. I haven't (as a noob that is) seen many lights out there that actually get near the capable output of today's top LEDs.

That is because those LEDs have enormous power requirements for our flashlight batteries. You have to be able to safely deliver the power and to cope with the heat, which is not an easy task.

Remember the old SF L4? This one used a LuxV slightly underdriven and was too hot to hold after a continous burn on a table. A P7 or MC-E driven at max. current is mroe than double the heat and power of the LuxV in the L4.

If they bring it to market it will be my next "must have light". I have been stuck in the sub 200 lumen range for some time now. Need a brighter light to help me find the :toilet: at night :candle:. I don`t have a problem with the 8 AA concept...might be nice if it had the switch on the side as well.

Of course Nightcore might come out with something soon too...might get my money first :poke:.

OK,

here are my wishes for 2009 Fenix - illumination wonders:

1. a multi-die flashlight (Tactical light)
. - 2x or 3x CR123 (or max. 2x 18650) size
. - body of a TK11 (or longer for the more batterie - option)
. - max. lumen: 350
. - UI of the PD30 (incl. fast strobe / excl. SOS)
. - momentary on
. - with accessories: red filter, tactical holster, traffic ward

2. a real throw - monster (maybe HID)
. - great throw
. - as many lumens, as they can get
. - a "low" mode for shorter distances
. - rechargeable

Who knows ... sometimes thing happen faster than you expect.

Bye,

Stephan

I would be fun to stuff 8 Eneloops in that thing. 🙂 Hopefully they will sell a 3x18650 battery holder for it as well.

AAs are perfect for me. I consider myself a semi-flashaholic but i really don't want to store 27 different types of batteries and rechargables + chargers in my house. I already have a ton of eneloops i use everywhere in my household, so the AA-Light with power is just perfect for me! How long did i have to wait for such a light to show up?
There are already enough 2 / 3 CR123 and 18650-lights out there...

True that. But most people outside CPF won't pay 150 bucks for a flashlight either...
+1

Although I really want a 3x18650 tube (if it is not end-to-end battery placement) and the light has good heat management to really drive the leds; I also like the idea of an 8AA solution. As some have said no one else offers this configuration and it can be a good solution for many.

Now lets hope for a 5A tint and this will be a real outdoors light.

:ohgeez:

The JB is being driven at 550ma/die. This is 80% of the max rated current. The fenix is *maybe* going to be noticeably brighter, but if they underdrive the LED (like most everyone else), then there won't be much difference. Please don't say JB are lying when they're doingh the exact opposite.
