So my LD05 finally died after years of use, and upon emailing them on how to get repairs done, they said mail it to them in China, and they'll fix it and ship it back no charge. Sounds great considering I bought it used and no warranty (as far as I know).

Thing is, UPS will charge $94 to ship!!! I haven't gone into the local post office yet, but even if it's 2/3 the price, it's still more than the light itself!

So is there another way to do this? I think I read somewhere that a selling vendor can ship it back?

P.S.
I know it's the LED head so not asking for what I may do to "fix" it, and I'm not going to try to cut open the head to find out.

That's the problem with a lot of the Chinese manufacturers - even if the light is still under warranty, if they require RMA back to China, it's effectively no warranty at all. But I'm sure it can be shipped for much cheaper than that with USPS.... although the wait will be long round-trip.

Some dealers will handle warranty shipments for you (like lightjunction).... if you bought the light from them.... and the light is still under warranty.... but it sounds like you may not be. Worth checking your dealers website, or even consider calling and negotiating with an unrelated one, many have their own in-house repair shops that can fix the majority of issues.

Finally, consider a FourSevens replacement... long warranty, HQ & good CS based in the US.

It's only about 5-6 dollars if you ship first class with USPS, but of course other services will cost extra (registered, etc etc).

Even if you do 2 day or 3 day (whatever the express is) it's still only $40 or so.

+ 1

Use USPS First Class Mail International and a padded envelope. it's less than 6 dollars. and that's exactly how US companies such as 4sevens, illuminationgear and fenix-store.com can afford the international shipping of flashlights (with small retail packages).

Shipping back lights back to China, i've done it twice before. No big deal. Just do it, dont hesitate.

Contact the Fenix dealer from whom you purchased the light. They should be able to help you out.

This is one of the reasons I purchase from a reputable stateside Fenix dealer. You may pay a couple bucks more than some Ebay price but they will be there if you need them. I had an LD12 that was bad out of the box. Shipped it back to the dealer and they sent me a brand new one in the box. No Chinese shipping required and the whole ordeal was taken care of in about a week.

There are good stateside dealers in the marketplace.
