The UI looks almost identical to my old Lion Cub - I like it. And I am looking at several AA options; the Proton, the Olight T15 and the Peak Kino Bay.

The UI of the Proton appeals. So does that of the Olight, which seems identical to the T20. The Kino Bay is, well, it's a Peak, which means my grandkids will still be using it. I suspect the Proton is similar in robustness based on LRIs reputation, while the Olight is unproven. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I am not thrilled with the LED array in the Proton, but it will almost certainly be a very, very usable light since flood is more often usable for a pocket light than reach. And the red or white beam is also kinda cool.

So what say you, o wise ones?

Interesting. I wonder if the beam will actually be more useful than a showerhead type - they may be trading throw for flood. I also wonder when it will arrive! Based on LRIs track record for delays, who knows?

I've had a Proton for a few months and still like it. The floody beam is quite useful as is the red LED. The pocket clip works great. Be aware that the white LEDs come on at full power and ramp to dim. The red LED comes on dim and ramps to full. I find the white to be bright enough for most uses.

You might want to wait a bit for the new Proton, as bondr006 mentioned. I'll be interested in seeing how they arrange the LEDs.

I like the proton and use it quite a bit. The beam is a very nice flood with the showerhead design. Whereas some lights with have the definitive circle edge at the outer portion of the beam, the proton just seems to blend in. For close up work I love it. Also for a 1AA light, it seems a bit lighter in my pocket than others. If only the slight blueish tint didn't exist in the beam. Someone ,I recall replaced their leds with snows, but I wonder if that would mess up the smooth spill. My experience with snow leds is only single not clustered so I'm not sure.
That said I'll be looking out for the new cree version as well. Will be interesting to see how they implement that with two colors.

I have one and like it. It has a very useful UI, uses AA, and is bright enough.
This might be a small stretch, but I like it almost as much as the new Titan I just got.
