anyone done ARC4/LS3 swap

My understanding is the Arc4 head assembly is potted and not reworkable. In addition, the new circuitry is 'power regulated', not 'current regulated' and is programmed via software, not via sense resistors. Not (yet) being a proud Arc4 owner, I could be misinformed about this.

power(Watts) is the result of voltage times Current, and from what i've been reading, the ARC4 puts more then 350
mAh into the LS, that is why i ask.
the potting sounds like a bit of a problem though.

The ARC4 is calibrated via a feedback loop at the factory. They put each board/LED assembley into a jig where it is hooked up to various sensors. There is a computer that runs the ARC4 board thru various drive levels before deciding on the optimum settings. In essence, each board is tailor made for that particular Luxeon, swapping out the Luxeon for another sample *could* improve performance, but it could just as easily make it much much worse.

If you can get the head innards apart (it'll be tough to undo the potting), and are able to swap out the emitter, then as long as you use a *better* emitter, you'll be better off....

tailor made, wow...
that must cost some $$$, i now see why the light is $180.
seems worth it.
i'll let you know when i ruin my ARC4 second /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif
it's just my nature, i just must try.
