Another option is to simply not cut hair at all; kind of a warlord/caveman look.

I've been doing this since the late 80s out of necessity. The local barber shop closed by the time I got home from work. That left Saturdays as the only day I could get a hair cut. I wasn't about to spend half my Saturday waiting as that was their most crowded day. The only other option was when a holiday fell on a weekday. I didn't really like spending one of my rare extra days off getting a hair cut, even if the wait time was shorter.
I remembered we had a clipper which my father used once to try to give us haircuts as kids. It didn't go well. I figured I'll give it a try. I did the back solely by feel. It came out better than expected. So that was it. No more going to the barber. I never had anyone say my hair looked weird. I also saved a lot of money. $10 for the barber every month or two is a lot when you're not making much.

Normally I am that lazy, but chicks don't like the SKULLET look. Neither do I. And long hair isn't tacticool either.

I use a clipper at 000 and every couple of weeks I’ll shave it. Been doing this for about 22 yrs.
I remember a few years back one of the boys mouthed off to his mom one Sunday morning. Later that day it was haircut time and he sure did regret mouthing off to his mom after that.
He was in middle school at the time and was a chick magnet. When his mom was finished with the haircut he looked like someone had set a cereal bowl on his head.... crooked and cut around it. Oh he was so mad. Not long after that he learned to cut his own hair.

I have been cutting my own since the pandemic started. Now I know where the mullet look came from - doing the back is hard.

i have been giving myself undercut fades with a clipper for 6 years now. I use a wall mirror and a handheld and it takes a while but is pretty satisfying. It feels like an omage to all of the people before me that cut their own hair before barbers existed.
I think The scene in Chronicles of Riddick where he shaves his head with some nasty motor grease and a home made knife really set it in my mind that its badass to cut your own hair.

One year I was on a bridge painting project and while at a 7-11 getting coffee one morning one of the painters whips out some clippers and starts buzz cutting his hair revealing a skull covered with flame tatoos. Others on the crew and I were standing there kinda stunned when this guy walks up and says "I want you"... The guy with the flames says "what?" The other guy says "I want you in my movie". Turns out the other guy was some kind of talent scout for the movie 'silence of the lamb' .
I've never seen the movie so I don't know if the flame guy played in it or not. But it was an interesting way to start an otherwise routine day at work.

If you rent the movie "Killers Clowns from Outer Space" you can get a glimpse of knucklegary in the biker bar scene. I am the guy with huge head of curly hair laughing, with other bikers, at a midget alien on a push scooter.. Next scene, bikers blood and guts everywhere 🤡

My Better 3/4s, a friend, and I decided to see The Silence of the Lambs when we had just been out goofing around. None of us had any idea of what it was about. I've never liked scary movies .... Truth be told, it scared the crap out of me. Seriously, I wouldn't get into my van for a week without first looking in the windows.
They said it was a Jodi Foster movie. I haven't seen a Jodi Foster movie since 'bedknobs and broomsticks' when I was a kid.
