I'll like to know if any member have one of the old (1980's) Brinkmann 5-3-2 flashlight.
This is a flashlight that can be converted to run in two D cells or three or five.
The lens have a metallic cup that extend inside and cover the head of the bulb, that gives the light a tight focus.
I am also looking to buy one in very good condition, to replace a damaged one.

I have one in poor shape. Been left outside ten years, sand blasted, fell out the back of a truck on the highway and had to wrench it with a pipe wrench to take it apart to remove the batteries.

Still works, but I do not recall if the reflector was plastic or metal.

ABTOMAT, I called Brinkmann today, the new 2-3-5 is a different animal, the reflector is plastic in the new one.
In the old one is no plastic of any kind and the switch is well away from the lamp, so no possibility of melting anything.

So, yours have also the aluminim reflector!! if you are running an MR16 you are going to need the 52.1mm borofloat lens. As you probably know the Brinkmann is 1" shorter than the Maglite 3 D, when you remove the original lens with the metalic cup in the center, the mirrorer reflector become a flood reflector.
I would like to know a little more of your adventures to fit the MR 16.
Enlightme!!!

Mine is in fact new enough (though not "new" by any stretch of the imagination!) to have a plastic reflector.

I took the lense out for my tests, and the MR16 almost fits perfectly, with a bit of rattle.

The head can only be on with a thread or two, and the bezel can't go down tight.

OH! and to make the contact I use a Carley 912 Bi-Pin adapter (short runs only!)

The lamp has the pins sharpened somewhat to make contact, and pressure holds the lamp/adapter into the socket.

Since the Brinkmann has a MUCH shallower reflector which is not cammed, there ain't much room to play with...

And besides, even at 15AA I felt there might be a bit more to overdrive. After all I used 7x123 a year or so ago to test. And it took all 7 to get respectable whiteness from the MR.

And again, since we can get so much out of 2D and 3D M*gs, I see no point in the expense and trouble of doing M*g MR mods anyhow!!!

Since I have a modamag 8AA-2D adapter coming, I'll revisit this later... but I also have 1185 and 1111 bulbs coming (tee hee hee!!!!!)

Nothin' but good times Fat_Tony!!!

I stuffed 6 Nimh C cells, a Carley 912 Bi-Pin adapter and a M*gcharger bulb into a 5Cell Streamlight Excalibre light I have.

It's a big sucker, but has a pretty nice beam!

I'm loving this hotwire stuff!!!
