Anyone heard of "Mighty Bright" lights?

Yesterday a fellow with Mighty Bright gave me a sample of a light he designed. If you check out the company website he gave me a Pedal Board Light. I have it clipped to my laptop right now and it works great with one white LED illuminating the keyboard.

The gentleman who gave me the light was very friendly but was not able to tell me:
1. what brand of LEDs (they are definitely bright and most likely 5mm, though it is hard to see clearly through the convex lens that actually provides a nice flood)
2. type of circuit, i.e., direct drive, boost, regulated, etc. All the cells are inserted with the + and – terminals aligned in the same direction (like a parallel circuit), but all three cells must be in place for the light to function; I removed one cell as a test and the light does not work. I assume that means it is a series circuit, and judging by the "angry blue" color of the white LED that seems reasonable.

I'm running it on the 3xAAA el cheapo alkaline cells provided in the box and it gives a surprising bit of light for (presumably) only two 5mm LEDs. Using one white LED it gives more light than my Dorcy 1XAAA that I use a lot. I used both of the Mighty Bright white LEDs to walk outside the house into an unlit yard and sidewalk to rummage around in the car and the amount of light was usable in the dark. Holding the light 2 feet from the wall with both white LEDs illuminated, it produces an almost round area of light about 3-feet from top to bottom and a little less from side to side (the lens is oblong, not round so it does not produce a complete circle).

The red LEDs are also bright and produce the same oblong circle of light.

I don't have a way to measure actual lumen output but maybe tomorrow or Sunday I will get a chance to compare it to a couple other lights I have lying about. Sorry, but I do not have a way of posting any pics in the event that I can make such a comparison.

I just found one of these lights I had bought a long time a go for lighting up one of my digital mixers, has any of you tried modding one of these?? I can imagine a Hi Cri Nichia 083 looking awesome in one of these or maybe another brighter LED, however I wouldnt know what kind of drive these have or how I would have to hook it up. Any suggestions/ideas?
