Was looking at them on GoingGear's site and noticed that the black and neutral color versions are now low-med-hi instead of med-low-hi, had to order one! :twothumbs

The PWM rates have also been increased to 1000 Hz, so PWM flicker is practiaclly gone now.

BTW, the natural colour has been discontinued by iTP. Once they are all sold out, they are gone for good.

Glad I got the Maratac version of the A3 when they first came out. Med./Low/High works great for me.

I had not heard this. Where was this information made public, or the tests done to confirm it? (Not questioning it - just wanting to follow up on it)

Update: Never mind...I found it. This is good news because low frequency PWM really bothers me. I may go ahead and get one of these with this improvement along with L-M-H.

Blimey I was just about to order one of the older models! - I take it I would be hard pushed to find anywhere in the UK with the newer model yet.

You'd have to inquire with any resellers there to verify.

Only the newest batches of black and natural have the update so far.

One thing I noticed when I got my updated black one yesterday is that the box has changed a bit as well from the other 3 A3's we have.

That's a welcome update.

The annoying PWM and the med-lo-hi sequence mean that mine doesn't get used very much.

Don't think I'll be replacing it though, since its place has already been taken by my QMiNi CR2 :) .

Glad I bought mine with the m-l-h setup, for a daily used light that sequence is far better for me but on the other hand for evening use the l-m-h would suit me better but no I am not buying another as I am more than happy with the one I have and would never buy the same light twice as I would miss the fun of trying something different.

i've just bought another load of these and they all start in medium which is the only thing i don't like about the light, it would be perfect for me starting in low

god. damn. it. :(

When did this change happen? I just ordered one on Saturday.
Actually, it came in the mail today and it starts in low. Cool! It also has a centering device like some of the newer AAA lights and the lobster claw rather than the crappy ring they used to come with.

I received one in natural gray color on 18 August.

Has the new driver with 1000Hz PWM (almost impossible to see the PWM), but mine is MED-LOW-HIGH.

Also has the new keyring (crab craw style) the same as the A1 and A2

Also has the centering device on the LED

Interesting.

Are you happy with the UI?

I have mixed feelings about the new mode ordering.

For my own lights, I prefer L-M-H, but the A3 is the kind of light that I'm more likely to purchase for someone else rather than myself. I find that non-flashaholics do better with M-L-H since they're extremely likely to forget that the light has multiple modes and and up using the first mode all the time.

If the first mode is Medium, then it's plenty of light for just about anything they do. If the first mode is low (and they don't remember there are other modes), then the light goes in the drawer and they curse my name for giving them such a useless gift.

The single mode A3 is no good because High runs the battery down too fast.

*sigh*

Unless it's a blackout, a non-flashaholic isn't likely to use a bright light for longer than a couple of minutes. The non-upgraded version of the A3 should be fine. But nothing wrong with letting them know they should get a couple of lights geared towards runtime. Sure, some folks don't listen. But all you can do with a thirsty horse is bring him to the water. The smart ones will happily drink once brought to the oasis.

On a personal note, I've been trying to get my friends to EDC at least one light each. My attempt to do so, by getting a couple of them Streamlight Pro models; did not go well. Oh they loved them. But they were immediately relegated to Constantly-Kept-In-A-Car duty. Next attempt? . . . Single-stage A3 models, modified by me to be Uber great for Keychain duty. I'll convert them yet!

I am really looking forward to receiving my iTP A3. Lucky that I saw this new version before I ordered the older version.

I've had to order from US as it seems like UK suppliers aren't even aware of this newer version yet. I expect about a 7 day wait :(

This will be my first EDC as my other lights are too big to EDC. I can see myself using it often as it will always be with me - on my keys!

Am sitting here next to my set of AAA Uniross Hyrdio cells which are demanding to be used in the iTP A3 :D
