Anyone running lithium primaries in a MM LED?

I tried a search but when I put 2 terms in I get an error page. So, quick question...Is anyone running lithium primaries (Energizer e2) in a stock minimag LED 2AA or 3AA? Any problems with the slightly higher voltage? It would appear the 2AA might be more forgiving but I'd really like to get a 3AA LED and use lith's for emergency lights.

I don't own a MM LED, but the 2-cell version should be a boost circuit and therefore have no problem with a bit of extra voltage from lithium primaries.
I wouldn't try it in the 3-cell though as you'll likely be overdriving the LED and that MM has pretty poor heatsinking.

I've heard that the MJLED is rated for something like 2.8-3.2V, so I don't understand why people have been saying it has a boost circuit. My SMJLED has reverse polarity protection, but up until about a week ago I never heard anything about boost circuits; in fact just the opposite. It seems a lot of people used to have issues with the L91's 1.7V burning out the mjleds. Don't know if this was fixed with the SMJLED and SMJLED2, but I do know I 'conditioned' my L91's on an incan miniman for 10 minutes before dropping them in my SMJLED minimag for storage/emergency use.

I have an early MM LED 2AA that has about 40 hours total runtime on a single 14500 LiIon. (Early AW blue protected cell) Output is similar to the 3AA version on 3 Eveready 2300 NiMh.

When the MMLEDs first came out, I promptly installed a couple L91s in my 2AA, along with an IQ switch.

After about 5 minutes of use, the LED went very dim, and the IQ switch quit functioning...

For me, L91s + IQ switch + 2AA MMLED = FRIED!

I wondered about this myself, so I contacted Maglite when I first got my 2AA MagLED (over a year ago) and asked them about running batteries other than alkys...they said that the lights were made to run on regular alkys and they don't recommend using lithiums, or rechargeables.

That being said, I know I've read on here somewhere that people were running theirs on NiMH rechargeables and lithium primaries with no ill effects.

I haven't used anything but alkys in mine, because the company I work for buys the batteries for my 2AA EDC, so it's not much of an issue in my case.

I would think that the lithiums would be fine, unless you plan to run it for long stretches at a time, which may create a heat issue. The heatsinking in MagLEDs of all flavors leave a little to be desired, to say the least.

If it can handle a L-ion than it should be fine with 2 lithium primaries. I guess I'll stick with the 2AA for now until I hear from some people who have the 3AA.
