I know many have used the FM 1794 bulb with AW C cells of LiCo chemistry without soft start to great success. Has anyone tried one with a pair of D cells of LiCo chemistry without soft start? It seems that this combo would push this bulb to the limit, so I would expect a relatively short bulb life, but will it instaflash? Speculation will not help here folks - I am asking for experiences. And I already know that the cells could be undercharged to improve the odds. My question pertains to fully charged D cells. Thanks in advance to anyone that took a chance and gave this a shot.

In LuxLuthor's testing they flashed at 7.9V, so my guess is...

LOL

As I recall, FM recommends only charging the cells to 4.1V. Every 1794 I tried with fully charged cells :poof:ed, even protected 18500s.

Sanyo 18650 cells, resting 24 hours after full charge, voltage reading 4.20 before putting them in the light.
One 1794 went out with a bright flash!
I have several pairs of cells, so after this I let them rest a week after charge, and no problems.
