Anyone tried PWM regulator mod w/halogen in Maglite?

Has anyone ever tried anything like using a microprocessor-controlled PWM voltage regulator with an MR11 halogen lamp in a D-cell Maglite? I've been doing some homework on this and would like to share some info and ideas. Thanks!
