Anyone used the PT Corona yet?

Just saw this in an NRS catalog, sounds like it might be great as a personal/flood light vs the myo styles which are more (from what I can gather I haven't used them) a personal light/medium distance light.

I've been using mine for about 2 weeks. I like it so far. I was also considering the SL Sceptor, the one with 7 leds. The Corona is way brighter than my old Matrix. The Corona is good for close to medium distance where throw isn't needed.

really? is it really bright enough? hmmmm im not a headlamp fan since you never can find one that is bright enough. i do however hold PT in high regard and i might try one out next time im by an outfitter. thanks for the heads up- i never got by their booth at shot and therefor never knew this existed.

Hi Trevor, I compared the Corona to my SL 3C 10 led, and the Corona is almost as bright at full output. I haven't been able to try it outside in very dark conditions yet, but I think that it would be it would be plenty bright for camping and hiking. There isn't a lot of throw with standard leds, I think that a bright flood seems brighter because you have a wider angle lit up.

I walked on a dark trail last year and tried an Arc LSHP and a SL 4AA 7 led, and the Arc lit up the trail good for about 75 to 100 yards. The Streamlight seemed to be brighter because I could see more side spill, even though I couldn't see as far.

I saw one at Galyan's today. Definitely brighter than the Matrix. "Neon Yellow"? looks green to me. The engineers must have been using an original Luxeon and liked that color when they came up with this one.

What I like most is that the light mode button (8,5,3 or 1) is seperate from the brightness/flasher mode button. I don't see the use of the flashing modes except to show that the unused circuit board space was doing something.

I have a Corona. It's a pretty nice light. This should be a good light for someone that's looking for a headlamp with variable brightness and that uses AA batteries. The LEDs are less blue than the LEDs in my Yukon HL.

I picked up one at The Great Outdoor Provisions Co. a few weeks ago with a 20% off coupon they sent me in the mail so all in all I think I paid $40 which isn't bad.

I like it very much although its my first headlamp so I can't compare it to much. Most of what I've done with it so far is walking in the dark and using it around my car when doing nighttime photography which involves setting up the tripod and looking through my car for mess. For all of this just a single LED on the low setting is plenty of light for me. At the highest setting you get a very wide flood effect but you seem to get alot of fuzzy bounce back of the light like trying to use your high beams in your car during heavy fog.

One thing I'd like to have different would be to have the intesity go backwards so that it starts off in the dim setting and with a single bulb and one could just keep moving up till they had enough light to do whatever they were doing at that moment. If they had trouble seeing something, just bump it up another notch or two. Maybe have it so you could hold both buttons to skip to full power when you need it.

The unit has a built in timer so that if you have been on any given setting for something like 10 seconds and you hit the button again it cuts off insteed of going to the next setting. I think they'd have been better off to have a dedicated on off. All of these are minor complaints though. Couple my headlamp with my PT Surge and I can take care of bussiness.
