Oh yeah, Money.
Might need to bribe folks along the way to your Bug-out location.
Barter items are very important!

Water bottles, mini liquor bottles, cigs, chew tobacco, diapers, toiletries, lighters etc

Money might be useless in certain situations, but I'd imagine silver and gold might be worth something.

Water will be the most valuable commodity for sure.

Water filters and purifier tabs are key!

I do have a few hatchets, but dont keep them in my bag. They're always hanging around the house. Also my jeep. My jeep also has a lot of stuff I find useful.
Med kit, trauma kit, water, air compressor, tow ropes/straps, ratchet straps, basic tools, impact wrench, impact ratchet, usb lights, shovel etc.
The shovel always gets weird looks when I move in my trunk to make space, lol...

True. But early on, at the beginning, folks will still happily take money.

Snow shovel, Ace Hardware short shovel, Cold steel shovel, Condor Tool & Knife shovel.... I don't get any weird looks with all that in the trunk of my car. Then again, those are buried underneath all of my other tools. Could open up a well-stocked, mobile hardware store with everything I have in the trunk of my car.

Hey, psst, you, with the man bun and soy mocha chai latté, wanna buy some man-tools?

Good thing I have a big jar of coins, also a bunch of 1s. I recieve tip at work and I hate singles (or even 5) and stuff them into places. Try to use them gas or groceries but in this economy, a pocketfull of 1s and 5s will buy you a carton of extra large eggs and maybe some oreos.

Do you dance at the Pink Pony Club? Hey, no judgement from me. 😉
If it did, I owe them money from loss of customers

Don't forget alkaline batteries for barter. All sizes, but heavy on AA and AAA, as that seems to be the most popular sizes now.

Along with the diapers, you might stock some baby formula. Remember the baby formula shortage a few years ago? Parents were desperate. It would be a very valuable barter item, but you would really have to watch the expiration dates and carry several different formulations.

True.

I have a bunch of nihm batteries, I wonder if they'll do better, as they can come back for recharge, at a cost of course.

Might be ok for a bunker/holdout, but for those who I assume will be in the majority, nomadic/camper types, the ability to shed excess weight and waste as they go might be a factor in their survival. No one wants to lug around dead weight until it can become useful again, i.e. rechargeable batteries.

People bury items in places they can remember, for later retrieval.

Batteries could easily be put in a durable container, along with a charger, and solar, then put in the ground.
I would do this with extra weapons/ammo as well.

Caches are vital to a nomad...maybe a pelican case? Or something less expensive like planos?
