If you have a standard Arc on order you might want to check your e-mail...see manufactures forum for more info.

I have #11 reserved spot, and didn't get mine yesterday, it's coming from Arizona, right?... ...so maybe it's in the Post Office now...

(Free, can you smell the fire on yours?)

I am amazed that some people are getting their packages today. Sometimes the US Postal Service suprises me.

Let me know if you like it!

Ted, you know your right, they might have a faint woodsy fire smell to them. I can't smell it because the whole place is basked in it. The wood smoke smell is because the backing for the laser cutter was wood and that is mostly what burned. Mind you wood burning in a laser is not like normal wood burning. But you get the idea.

Btw, Chris Millinship (one of your reviewers) ordered a turquoise a while back and we sent him a white along with his order for review. We were in such a hurry I forgot to test his units for uncommon perfection so he got whatever was next on the line. Probally better that way because it keeps us on our toes.

We haven't sent any of this production run (GenII) to Craig or Brock for review yet since they are in such short supply. Maybe later in the week?

Enjoy your lights!

Peter Gransee

Been sitting here smelling my ArcLight, luckily nobody saw me! Can't detect a smell, but I just finished a cigar, so that's probably it. <g>

I've detected some strange & scary smells in new flashlights before, but never a burnt wood or "fire" odor before.

Odors I've smelled in new flashlights include those of (or similar to) uncured epoxy, vinegar, "that new car smell", cat urine, funky pits, burnt circuitry, burnt resin, rancid honey, sweet candy, wet iron oxide, cupric oxide, freshly-opened condom, and various plastic compounds.

In fact, one of the first things I do when I get a new light is pop it open and stick my nose in there and see what it smells like.

Looking forward to their arrival! I`m counting on them being the high quality I expect from the Arc company

If they aren`t, you`ll be the first to know.

BTW mr G- what type of turquoise LED did you go for in the end- is it still the narrow dog-bone beam one, or is it the wider Infinity or widest Photon one?

Aaahh, so that`s what I`m doing wrong

, I knew there was something important I was forgetting to do during my "review process"

Chris I sent you the wide angle turquoise which is replacing the narrow (we still have a few narrow for people who ask for them).

The Arc-AAA is now my official King of keyring lights! The Photon II has been dethroned! Does anyone (Peter??) have any advice on keeping the finish looking somewhat new while on my keychain? Perhaps I can spray the light with a Clear-Coat type paint (masking off the LED and reflector of course) My solitaire, Infinity, and others always look worn out and silver starting after only a couple of days. I have one black solitaire that is now completely silver.

quote:
Have you considered clear heat shrink tubing?

No, but that's a great idea. I'm gonna try it on an old solitaire first and see how it looks. Thanks

telephony,
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I elled elled all the way down the string!
But we must remain suspicious of any odors telephony detects, remember, he lives with a family of rats! (btw how did they do during the quake?)

(Joe, off topic, but, what kind of cigars are you smelling in your flashlight? )
The funny thing is, I was speculating about the fire smell, I had not yet received, or sniffed, my Arcs! - I had read Peter's story about the fire...still chuckling...
..but my Arcs WERE in the mailbox down on the highway (luckily it's a locking mailbox), so now I have them. After reading about the sniff tests - I ran to the car, grabbed my keyring, unscrewed the Arc, and inhaled deeply --- but I am on a sage and chapperal-covered hill -- I closed my eyes, is that Mr. Gransee's lab and factory I am picturing? -- lasers humming through the air like sabers, and electric sparks buzzing and snapping, people running for the halon fire extinguishers...or is it just my imagination? ...
...very pleased with the light! Thank you Peter Gransee! Brighter than I thought it would be. I think it was VERY smart of Peter G. to take the suggestion
(who's was it?) to add another turn or turn and a halt to the head; I feel much more secure about being able to give the light a good 'off' twist and not to worry about the light coming on, or the head falling off in my pocket...
The foam ring is to keep the battery from rattling in the off position, right? A little odd not having a spring in there -- I tightened down the head pretty hard, (but not as hard as some people will, I know) but it seemed to be ok with that - I'll have to reread telephonies test, did you try that
test, tele.? (It broke my two Infinities...) I'm afraid to really try it on my two Arcs...
The finish is obviously designed to be extremely slip resistant, almost like holding a tube of emery board, (it does seem to make a fine finger nail file!) - in fact that is the only complaint I can seem to come up with; the texture of the barrel could be 'sexier'...but then it wouldn't be as utilitarian...
(How could Walmart sell them for $8.50? Loss leader? Note: Here I have again confused the 'arcwhite' with the arclight , sorry - there is no Arclight at Walmart's!)
I'm thrilled with the Arc, and thrilled with the prospect of the Arc LS!
...still want Gransee to make a aaaa version, though! Call it the 'Arc ForayLS'!

Ted, I had just finished an Aliados ( made by Rolando Reyes ). You herf?

AAAA size? Excellent idea, I was in Office Depot last week and saw AAAA batteries for the first time, that would be discreet.

The light is great, already used it at least a dozen time since it arrived yesterday morning.

Sorry to say, but all of my household pets died in the earthquake.
A wall collapsed on top of the rat's home, flattening it to a depth of approximately 0.6", instantly killing everything that resided there... in this case, all of my pet rats and several live plants.

My online store was also pretty much destroyed, having lost more than 95% of my "on hand" inventory, before I was able to sell & pay my providers for it. So that's pretty much toast. What you see on my "online store" is about it... I lost so much in the quake I cannot pay for it, so I can no longer obtain a NEW supply of LEDs or flashlights once my existing supply is exhausted.

Because of the earthquake and all the damage and loss it causes, it is VERY likely that on my $300 a month disability income, that I will now be in dept for the rest of my natural life.

I *think* mine had a mild odour of freshly vulcanised rubber... but now I can't remember for 100% certain.

Gosh, who knew that flashlights could be such smelly things?!?!?

telephony,
Oh. I am sorry about the rats. When I wrote asking how the rats were, I guess I felt certain they would have come through the quake OK. I was wrong. I don't remember you mentioning them in those frst reports and pictures you posted during and after the earthquake...but I didn't know you had pet rats back then...
Maybe it's time to solicit for a new round of donations for tele and the LED Museum??
Ideally, we run out of air and money at the same time, or better yet, a million$ in debt..but I am sorry...

I didn't feel like posting pictures with blood in them.

So I left that part out on purpose.

I posted a memorial on one of my other websites... goes something like this:

IN MEMORY OF MISSY +MARCH 10, 1998 *FEBRUARY 28, 2001
miss2002.jpg

An Ode to Missy

Rattus norwiegicus is your taxonomic nomenclature.
An endothermic quadraped, seminocturnal by nature.
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your recreational and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your dental bruxations
A singular development of rattal communications.
This obviates your basic sedentary quiescention
For this is how you demonstrate affection.

Tree embryos & yogurt are quite essential for your viscerence.
You would not be so motile if you lack their succulence.
And when not curled up being nocturnal in your quarters,
Captive vegetation falls and insulators become martyrs.

O Missy, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Missy, and do not comprehend,
I none the less consider you a true and valued friend.

jlh;
well, I guess a lit cigar is a kind of flashlight...or an ash light...

I have at this moment started enjoying my usual; Fuente Hemingway Signatures.
The Aliados were only 2 or 3 dollars back when...you have heard of JR Tabacco mailorder? -- the lowest prices - they're online...
--telephony,
..quite moving. Will you be getting animals again?
