Thank you! I thought I knew the whole road map but I am now discovering I was mistaken in 1 case...

Jeff,

Thanks! I already referenced your chart in another post. 🙂

Isn't the LS3 running the LED at about 2.5 Watts?

- Don

There are quite a few LS1s with NX01 optics too.
These were the first to be sold.

Mr. Ted Bear, Thanks for clearing thing up. Do you have any idea which version is the one if I place an order to a ARC dealer today? Or, simply by random luck?

Alan

Also, the LS3 was originally planned (and still is) for release in November or later depending on the availability of the 5W emitter.

With a 3v pack, the LS3 is driven at about 2watts. With a 6v pack, it is driven to about 3watts.

As you can see, the LS1 is the host for all the rev2 transistions.

Thanks Jeff for posting the chart!

Peter

I understood that the LS2 was to have new optics for a longer "throw". Has that changed?

What about run times? It is my understanding that with the new electronics, run time is cut in half!

Say it ain't so!

GlockDoc,

The LS2 uses a HD emitter which, when coupled with the same optics, gives a tighter beam and longer throw.

Check, and thanks McGizmo.

What about the runtime? I have 3 "1 hour" lights already and don't see the need for another one, even if it is half the size.

What I want is the LS2 "throw" with the LS1 runtime. Is that even possible?

GD

The electronics in all the rev2 models is nearly identical. The difference is the emitter and the sense resistor value.

One of the reasons Dat2zip's design is ideal is because it it so compact for what it does. The design regulates when the battery voltage is less than the LED voltage. Since the 5w emitter requires about 6volts and the pack is about 5.9v (max voltage under load), it happens to work out quite well. Serendepity.

The maximum safe voltage for the LS3 head is about 6.3 volts under load.

Wow! This is getting complicated. This chart should be saved off somewhere. We'll be referring to it for months, I'm sure. Thanks for putting that in a form we can all understand, Jeff!

Maybe the chart can be revised a bit? "Orig" and "New" is fine until the generation 3 bodies, electronics, etc. etc. come out--then what will we have? Orig, New, and Newer?

The LS is as hard to track as a car--IE the Gen 4 Ford Taurus has a completely new body style except the doors, which are caryovers from Gen 3 and the mechanics of it-also carried over. The 24 valve "Duratec" engine was new for Gen 3 but the 12 valve "Vulcan" has been there since Gen 1.

Confused yet?

The only way to keep up without that great chart would be to buy one of each and line 'em up side-by-side.

Say? Is that the marketing strategy?

I drive a Honda Civic--like Peter Gransee!

Actually, I usually bike or walk to work... it is wonderful to be able to do so.

mmmmm... I don't really mean to start a car flame war...

I'm not a Taurus enthusiast, it's just the most recent car I read about thuroughly...watch out though, because now I'm reading "The car that could" about the GM Ev1.

**EDIT**
Oh yeah, and my brother just got a Taurus too and I don't let nobody around here (Or should I say nobody around here does) buy a car without doing "Saaby car shopping" scale research.

I know, there are enthusiasts for everything. I'm sure some of you are familiar with the "Electric Shaver Page," which I have posted to.

And yes, I know that the SHO Taurus is a different beast than the regular one.

And yes, I know there are people who hate Hondas. I just have a thing for reliability. Our Civic and Accord sure ain't sexy.

Ok, I'll stop before this thread becomes "Cars... was: ARC LS - Model......"

Does this mean that the new hybrids are safe to run off of 6V (2x123)?
I know that it won't be any brighter but will it be safe?
