Arc LS or a Surefire?

I'm confused not.....

Can you purchase a Surefire with Luxeon LED's? I would'nt mind a Surefire with LED's vs the those costly replacement bulb/lamp.

The first SureFire flashlight with a Luxeon will be the L1 - Release date unknown.

BUT!

In about a month, you'll be able to buy the KLx "Konversion" LED Bezels. These are straight swaps for the standard bezels on your SureFires.

For example, you can replace your E2e bezel with the KL1, or you can replace your G2 bezel with the KL3.

Oh, and I expect that some dealers will be offering the KL1 with an E1e & E2e body, a LOTC and a bunch of batteries.

Several dealers already have ProPack kits for different SureFire models. I guess there will be a market for KL1 ProPacks and KL3 ProPacks...

Sorry Al. I saw another post that had the 2003 date. If it's one month then YEAH. Time to place an order for a KL1.

How is SF about newly released products? What I mean is should these be good to go right away or will they be updating them and then re-releasing a new version. Or should I wait to buy them after the bugs are worked out?

Bugs?

They had working KLx before the last SHOT Show! This is not a new product in sense that SureFire have been perfecting it for sometime now.

SureFire: "If it Breaks, we fix it."
If my KL1 fails to perform to spec. If a bug is discovered after all this time, I would expect to be able to have a refund or replacement with a working KL1.

Although SureFires are evolving products - There is nothing about the KLx that I notice is "a bug they'll fix in the next batch" I think SureFire want to hit the ground running with the KLx.

Someone on posted that SableCo expect to get stocks in about a month's time.

If you have an E Series SureFire, it'll be $40 you'll find hard not to spend I think.

I'd get the KL1 & KL3 first. I think these Luxeons will impress the most.

Any who uses the M3 with BeamShaper a lot, the 19 LEDs of the KL2 are likely to give you light like you have only dreamed of.

The KL3 styling sold me! I can't wait for mine to arrive from The Prince.

If I have the E2e in one pocket and an Arc sLS in the other pocket why do I need the KL1?

I have the E2e for its brightness. I have the sLS for redundancy, enough, but less, light when I need it, and battery compatibility with the E2e.

I see the KL1 as a good alterntive to the Arc LS, but I don't see fussing with/storing parts unless Surefire comes out with an SC that holds the spare head as well as the spare LA--and even then, when I need light, I don't need the wrong head on it.

Just my 2 cents.

Now the AVIATOR is different. That gets my interest for several reasons:
--It has a regulated incandescent. No dimming
(presumably) through most of the one hour
--It has LEDs as a low-power option and as
backup for failure of the incandescent lamp
assembly
--Depending on the color LEDs you select,
you can maintain night vision in the low mode.
I will probably select white, however.

Cheers,

Richard

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">My god, man! Because you're a CPF member!

Ha.

The LS and the KL1 on an E1/2 will be reasonably redundant yes. But some folks might prefer an E2 in one pocket and a KL1-equipped E1 in the other pocket. Why? Some like the looks better, some like the LOTC with momentary button better.

I have an Arc head on an E1 right now, and think it is dreamy. The KL1 head on the E1 will pretty much be the same thing for those who haven't the resources (or generous friend in my case) to achieve this conversion.

Arc LS Luxeon on SureFire body?!

Darell,
Please make sure people don't mistake your mod for a real SureFire product. I'd hate to think people form a low opinion of SureFires and what Luxeons beams are capable of being like based on seeing an Arc Luxeon with a SureFire logo body.

I'm quite unsettled by this... I think Darell the guy most in need of a KL1.

Al

From what I've seen, the quality of the KL1 can stand on it's own merits and needn't be brought to focus at the expense of others.........

Al, FYI, there are quite a few Arc LS's on SureFire bodys and they are great flashlights. I doubt anyone here on CPF would confuse the Arc with the KL1 as they are distinctly different in appearance.

Please tread with care, you have large feet afterall..... ;-)

- Don (perhaps I tread where I shouldn't)

EDIT: [ I made Darell's mod and in my opinnion, I constructed it from the the best components available at the time. I also made Wayne's 5W green from the best components and materials I could find. It is hosted in a M2. Is it a SureFire? NO Could PK and SureFire make a better one? No doubt in my mind whatsoever ! Does SureFire offer a 5W currently? No ]

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Al,

Are you saying that the Arc LS beam is inferior in some way to the beam from the SF Luxeon Star assemblies? Have you done a comparison? I'd be interested to know what the SF LS beams are like.

Because my Arc LSs have pretty darn impressive beams, and if the SF ones are so much better that seeing an Arc LS/E1 setup would give a bad impression, thos SF units must be something to behold..

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I think there is little chance of that, unless the people in question are not paying attention. I clearly stated "Arc head on an E1", and called it a "conversion." And judging by the pictures on page one of this thread, nobody will confuse them visually either. Here's the conversion in question:
LS-SF.jpg

This conversion is a beautiful, functional, practical (able to use 123 OR AA cell) instrument to behold. Are you implying that the KL1 will be a vast improvement over the Arc head? That would thrill me to no end, since my Arc LS is a very fine light indeed. Soon, I'll be able to hold both in my hand and compare them directly. But until then, I'll reserve judgement and my "low opinion" of anything. Remember - the KL1 doesnt' officially exist yet. This conversion does.

I totally agree with you that I'm most in need of a KL1. I have no lack of bodies for them. Know anybody who could send me one? Or three?

Hey I need one too! I just ordered my second E2e from Tim "The Prince"...

Line? There's a line? Why doesn't anyone tell me these things?

Darell, hold a place for me while I get my sleeping bag...
