Arc White - is the CCFT easily removeable ? ?

Can the CCFT be removed from an Energizer Arc White, leaving it in one piece - or at least in working order ?

I want to use a flourescent with a 6V project light, but would like to know, if I try, will it survive to be transferable in a relatively easy to use state ?

Anyone done this before, I'd be grateful for advice, before I buy and destroy.

Well, some snippets from Craig's review of the Arc White.

Unlike regular fluorescent flashlights, the tube in the Arc White cannot be changed.

But even if you DID get it out in one piece:
Since the fluorescent portion uses a high voltage inverter, a dunking will most likely kill this if it is on or if it is turned on when wet; however the incandescent should still function and get you back to your home or campsite.



So in other words, it wont work with 6 volts.

It didn't look like it would be easy to remove. You could maybe cut away most of the flashlight just leaving the top portion with the circuitry and fluorescent bulb.

BTW...that fluorescent light really puts out a lot of light considering how little power it takes.

Spud, you sound a little bit pleased about that !!!

Mais naturellemont, Monsieur, I checked out Craig's site.
But: I don't want to replace the tube - I want to tear it out, with it's light still flickering - and force the circuitry to work from 6V - whether it likes it or not !!

(Mike, "circuitry" - that's the word I was looking for, thanks. Still serving my apprenticeship ...... )

If the Arc White works from 4 AA's, I may have a chance of doing it somehow !

If you can't manage that: CCFT are available at electronics shops for relatively few money, but you have to check if the have ballast for other voltages as 12V.

Oh, you want the circutry too. That would probably work. May not look great, but hey, a lot of DIY projects don't. I was thinking you wanted JUST the tube, which would not be real useful. I still don't think it'd be EASY, but anything can be accomplished and removed with a dremel tool

Yup, I should buy me a Dremel thing.

All too often, I just end up using the BFH method. (Big Hammer.)
But I always seem to end up *bodging* it anyway, like a real "bodging Brit".

Spud, please have a close look at your Arc White, and advise me how difficult it will be to do ?

It HAS to be along with all the circuitry though !

PeLu's suggestion sounds a bit too "Technical" for me.
