Are threads on mag rebel 2D's not smooth as older incan models?

I got an old 3D incan and the new 2D rebel. Seems the threads are smoother on the the incan. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I doubt they've made any changes to the body. I think the only things they've changed are to the reflector and the top of the switch. I don't think they're putting spare bulbs in the tail caps of the newer rebel mags either as there is no use for a spare bulb in them.
