Article on "Wired News" about the popularity of LED flashlights

I am surprised we don`t see some of the larger lights there (Wallmart)...like the 7 led Streamlight.

Maybe tomorrow.

"quite a few stores sold out in the first week" tells me that hopefully there will be more peg space for led lights at wal-mart. the one near me in n.e. phila went from 0 led lights to 3 {brinkmann rebel, long-life and energizer folding led} along with plenty of brinkmann lx's, and the growing membership of cpfer's should make led lights "hopefully higher quality ones" more accessible to the "bulb and battery people" .01 cents

Maybe those battery companies will market 2 AA 1 watt Luxeon models. It would be a decent compromise for them. They may have such in the works, but are waiting for the white LS problems to be fixed and production to stabilize. Granted, they nearly as high quality as Arc's products. The ARC LS is in the Elite class of flashlights. (there is no higher quality). The LS will keep battery makers happy. I was lucky in that I got the rev1. It has all of the desired attributes for myself.

When the Rev2 comes out, I will get it, if the waterproofing has been solved, so that it is at least able to withstand a heavy downpour (aka frog choker), without getting moisture in the head. It will be dedicated to headlamp usage. Silviron's looking into modding a coleman peak 1 2D headlamp.

It is nice to see the report that true LED flashlights are gaining in popularity. People only need to understand that the bulb won't break when dropped, the batteries will last longer (to a point), and the flashlight is reliable. Then their usual concern is the price out of the gate.

Once their hooked, they will start looking on the web to see what is better, etc.
