Something completely random I stumbled across this evening. Thought you guys might be interested to see it.

Don't suppose there's any reason it *couldn't* be done. After all, we sacrifice enough opticaly efficiency by sticking the lamps inside shades...maybe the slightly less than ideal optical radiator shown here isn't such a bad thing...
 
Ken McE started a thread about those lamps last November called Screwball CFL's.

I would like to see a CFL made with an extra wide but tight coil going across from the base instead of axially so that it resembled the filament of a 1920's incan bulb.
Modern tech with a retro style look.
 
My favorite form of CFL, rather than the ugly "twisty" type, is one where the tube is stretched out into a very long straight line. It is both nicer looking and more efficient at distributing light than standard twsity CFLs!
