What other lights do you have to compare it to?

Re: ASP 3x Cree

I'm interested... esp in comparing the width of the hotspot to, say, a Q3 or a G&P 3W Drop in.

I want one too.
Where'd you got it from?

Here's one place that was posted by TacticalGrilling from another thread. He was talking about an eventual CPF discount coupon too.

How about you Fastcar, where did you get yours, and can I ask what battery configuration your model is? I'm a little confused as to what really is the difference between 2, 3, 4 cells, and then Lithium?? (refer to the link I posted)

Looking forward to more pics and a review please! :) Thanks.

Re: ASP 3x Cree

Quickie review:
The rotary collar is nice
General overall quality is good.
Has the typical ASP spongy grippy stuff
Mine is the 2 x123
It is quite fat..even more then a Wolf Eyes 6A
I dig the clickey
Next to my ALL my other incan small lights..its VERY white..they look pee yellow.
Not dark yet ( will test in the woods later) BUT

Drum roll please........Seems like an L4 on steriods

So far I like it alot.

More later

Re: ASP 3x Cree

UPDATE

Well I tested it.
Is it the new L4?...No
Is it a quality usefull light..yes
Is it worth 150 bucks...no 100...no...perhaps 70

As for the lumens my box showed 121
Beam shape is a mix of a L4 and a general purpose beam (6a Wolfeyes)
Better then other cree based lights i have used...The flood we want? No

When turned on the L4 is a wall of light. You dont see a circle ( in a large area).
It is like you flipped the switch and turned on a 250w bulb in a house.

The ASP is a soft, bright and smooth circle of light.More like an X-5 on steroids.More usefull then most beams. For sure no "wall of light". Perthaps 2/3 a wall of light.

My thought is:Unless u get this for 1/2 price or less, wait for a bit more.

The original ASP Taclite (internal focus) was one of the best throwing 2x123 lights a few years ago. They later changed to the Triad which wasnt as good/have the same type of focus as the older model. What is the rated runtime? Does it throw very well?

Not a throw monster.I would call it a medium range light.I like it and all BUT just not worth $165 IMO..1/2 that maybee.
I guess i would call it a general purpose beam.

As an example only:

Lets say the L4 at umm 20' from a wall made a 20' circle no real hot spot
The ASP at 20' 13' circle no real hot spot

But the circle is brighter on the asp...just smaller radius
As i said its a nice light overall, Price is high for what ya get though.

Keep in mind i thought the Aleph was a VERY nice light..but $100 overpriced

My 2cents

FASTCAR,
I have to disagree. While I don't think the light is a bargain @ $140, I do think it's still a good value. The build quality, innovation, and blend of throw and sidespill put it in the elite class within my collection. Compared to an L4 at $165, with less output and lower runtime, I may even have to rethink my bargain statement! The real test will be the new L5 when released with the CREE. That will be the light to beat, although, it may be tough to afford! All that being said, I'm still waiting to compare the L4 and Triad side-by-side for a practical comparison. That may be the acid test.

Be Safe, Grill Tactical.

Tact, I assume you have few lights then.
heck u can get a $30 6A wolfeyes with a $30 L.A. drop in cree. Better runtime, lumens ,beam and general build quality for around 60 bucks. Or $80 for the rechargeable setup with a HUGE 168a. ( PTS)

As per my tests : IMO

M1 is better
Huntlight cree better
Wolf Eyes6 with cree LA
and many others

I guess I go by : bang -for-the-buck, Asp is not alot of bang... for quite a few bucks.

Maybee I need a review site. Overall I rate the Asp 3x cree:
(VS other 2x123 lights)

Quality :7.5
Throw : 8
Flood :6
White wall test: 6
Runtime: 5

bang for the buck : 5

With more of a flat regulation discharge curve and 1/2 price i would rate it: 8

Ya
Somewhere on another ASP thread I talked about how mine had gummy crapola all over the contact points. I cleaned it with MANY drops of Deoxit. Was somthing like 40 qtips maybee.
Light worked MUCH better after that.

Even now its still as bright as many..or more.
Im shocked more dont own this light.
