I have a few atlas rgb stars in, and am trying to get them to work, but it SEEMS like its taking way to much voltage to get to the current :-(
i do understand that they are in series, with 2 emitters per connection, but i am trying to get to 250ma and as high as 350ma and it just seems to be going to high in voltage.
there are the little Blobs of black stuff on connection points, are they resisters or diodes? are they the ESD diodes ? or mabey they are zeeners? i donno. i need to know what that stuff is, and what happens when i toss it out.
things that are really different about them:
the "star" base that it is on is unusually thin, mabey that will help not having so much stuff before the heat sinc.
there is a lot of emitter in them, seems to be spread out well.
the plan here (if you wish to know) is its a 6 wire, and i am attempting to wire the whole thing in series, then run it with the same current flowing through each item, to achieve "white" from the trio. So some 20V through it and it should be blazing, but i have put MUCH more voltage through it and its barely heating up, although its putting out a lot of light, just not burning my eyes out yet.
anyways i need some advice from somone who has done this before (a real user) so i have an idea what is normal.
