Hi,
Anybody know how to use atx power supply without connecting it to motherboard ? Want to use it for other application. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif Thank you

Stick a paper clip in the molex connector in the pins that correspond to pins 13 (GND) and 14 (Power On/Off SW). This will keep the power supply on. You might want to wire these two pins to an external toggle switch so you can turn it on and off.

also some power supplies wont start up without a load on it, so you may need to connect an old hdd, fan etc. onto the psu

I use one for projects and just hunted for one with an on off switch than the automatic style used now a days.

How about AT power supply, do I need to connect certain pin like ATX or load with something ? Or just turn it on.

The AT supplies have a "hard" power switch, so you don't have to short any pins on the main molex connectors to get it to turn on. Like Repttilezs said though, there are some supplies that expect to see some sort of a minimal load in order to continue to operate. The switching regulator has to have some current flow to calibrate to.

Now, I can play CDs in my garage. CDROM, active speakers and old PSU, what a perfect match. Thanks to you guys.
