Does anyone know if there are any LED's bright enough to replace standard halogen car headlights? I know the Luxeon Star LEDS are pretty bright, but would a cluster of them be able to keep up with a 60W Halogen? How could you calculate the relative brightness?

Thanks!

Lumiled's press release is here:

Cool,

Now let's see a concept car with a random assortment of Lumiled's Luxeons! :)

Yeah, I know, Lumiled will bin the LED's for the auto mfg and you can pick your headlight color to match the interior trim.

" Uhhhhh......... Valet, mine is the one with camel interior and pea green headlights...."

See if you can reduse the pictures to around 600 wide. It's is currently too wide to see without scrolling.

I always thought McGizmo would deck out his car with a 7-cluster of Terra Destroyers for headlamps and the cyan ones as signal lamps. And furry dice with 3mm nichias where the dots should be

No LED headlights yet...but Cadillac is releasing a unlta-luxo cruiser (V16) in about a year that suposidly has LEDs for head, tail, and stop lights. We'll see if they make it from the hand built T-Zeros? (Dang...can't remember the correct term for these, T-Zero is that fast EV, same name I wonder) anyway--we'll see if it makes it from the pre-production full production final concept vehicles (The process of launching an Auto is quite complex) to production models...

Oh man, I know I've been here too much now. I just had an idea for an LS bar that would fit in any of the many openings in most any car's grille and function as a fog/driving light. Imagine 10 (or more) 5-watt Luxeon Stars on an aimable heatsink/mounting bar that would fit in one of the openings of your grill. I predict some cool LS based aftermarket accessories . . .

Well, on the bright side, you wouldn't have to worry about having a burnt out headlight. If people are complaining about the colors from the super blue halogens, I'd hate to see one of these on "brights".
