hello everyone,

i've been lurking for a while. don't know what it is about flashlights, but they've always fascinated me . . . glad there is a group of fellow flashlight nuts out there!

anyway . . .

i recently purchased an a2 aviator and have noticed some things about it i'm not sure are right. i just wanted to run it by y'all and see if anyone has had similar experiences:

1. as i twist the tailcap to turn on the LEDs come on and flicker. as i twist the tailcap further, the LEDs go out momentarily, then come on steady. is this typical? (when the incandescent bulb comes on, it is steady, no flickering.)

2. i took the incandescent bulb out to see if the LEDs function without it. they do, but their are two levels of LED brightness: initially the LEDs flicker, then come on steady. twist the tailcap a little more, and the LEDs jump up a notch in brightness. has anyone else noticed this?

3. the spring in the tailcap is not centered.

Duke, first off welcome! don't hang around too long or the bug will bite alot harder than just the A2!

There was a time where the A2's had some tailcap problems. If you go to www.surefire.com and click on customer service or some other name such as that you can get the 800 number to call them an discuss your woes. Most likely they will send you a new tailcap that will cure your problem. I truly do suspect that you have an intermittent conncection in your TC for some reason. Again welcome
!

That flickering could be the tail cap problem. Surefire Customer Service is great. Doug has always been very helpful. The two different levels for the LED's is normal. I also took out the bulb to see if the LED's would still work and had the same results. They are also on when the incandescent bulb is on. I think they aren't regulated when just the LED's are lit. When you push in the tail cap far enough to activate the regulation, they must be getting a little higher voltage. If you look closely when you light up the incandescent bulb, you will see the LED's get brighter.

OGPJ is correct! Thanks for the further imput and clarification.

oldgrandpajack,

My experience is that the help you get depends on which Doug it is.

P.S to Duke. Yes. You certainly are welcome here. Hope you find it educational and just plain fun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hey everyone, thanks for all the input! that's a very clever observation about the LEDs getting a little extra juice when the regulation is activated.

i've e-mailed surefire about the problem--i'll let y'all know what they say.
