Baby Pin IS waterproof! (or at least Washing Machine proof!)

Well, I was about to e-mail Mr. Bulk with the sad news:

“Mr., Bulk,” I would have written, “It is with great sadness that I must inform you that my dearly beloved Baby Pin, sadly, is MIA.” I have looked everywhere, and, while I am fairly sure that I did not loose it, it is MIA, somewhere in my house”. “

While this is of little comfort, we did find several other flashlights that WERE MIA, and have now been found!”

I was about ready to write this letter this Monday Morning, to Charlie, but there was some good news Monday Morning as I was getting some fresh undergarments out of the dryer.

I DID find my beloved Baby Pin, in the pocket of a pair of shorts that I had washed. YEA!

AND IT STILL WORKS! Now, if it was damaged, I just would have had to “take my lumps”. That is what you should expect to do, when buying a modified light.

I was going to write a glowing review of the Baby Pin, but I could not write about something that I did not have in my hand.

Well, now it is in my hand, so I can write a review!

The first thing that you notice is how SMALL it is!

babypin11.jpg

It is soo small, well you could easily loose it, or accidentally leave it in your pocket when doing the laundry and not notice that it is even there . . . .

It is shorter, and thinner than my McLux, another light that I am very proud to own.

Mr. Bulk's Baby Pin Page

Now this is certainly the BRIGHTEST 1 watt LS that I own, and I own some real nice lights, (3 Custom Made Mr. Bulk LGI’s and a Turnkey McLux are among the top contenders. . .)

AND, it is a very white light, not the blueish white that we have almost come to expect of LED, but a very white light. Very nice.

Now, the Beam is not what we have come to expect from Low Dome (batwing) LED light with the NX-05 optics, with that “intense center glow” followed by the “less intense” outer glow, which by the way, is very nice for closer lighting. This light, with the Fraen 30mm optics, gives a true beam, much more well defined than any NX-05 optics, but still with ample side spill. If you have never seen a high dome LS, be prepared to see a “square” beam of light, with a smaller, slightly off center round beam within the square beam. This is life with a HD LS.

It takes a lot for me to be impressed by a 1 watt LS, and this light impresses me.

It DOES get a little warm, bty, warmer than a light should get, but it is so small that moving it around in your hand is not a problem, even when using it for extended periods. I took a 45 minute walk with the light, and had no problems holding it, it just was noticeably warm.

It also fits very nicely in a Nite-Ize headband.

(We just like showing this picture on CPF!)

The only 1 watt light that impresses me more than this light, (and is MUCH MUCH LARGER) is this light, a one of kind mod made by dat2zip. But alas, this is a one of a kind, not available for sale light, that I only was lucky enough to see because of a pass around that I participated in.

Pass Around: PM6 R2H with Downboy 400

"Brightest 1 Watt" and "Tiniest 1 watt" light are two words that I would not have expected to apply to the same light, but appears that Mr. Bulk has succeeded again to push the limits of LED lights.

I should say, WAY TO GO MR BULK!”, but what I am really thinking is “I Wonder What will he come up with next?”

Oh, bty,
WAY TO GO MR. BULK!

Hey Bruce,

Some eloquent writing there, thank you. But as for leaving it in your pocket and going into the wash, CUT-OFF!!! (now that we finally settled up the amount you so kindly refused to take back from me).

Seriously, when people finally get their BPs they will note a circumferential inscription around one side of the head/bezel that says, "WATERPROOF 100%" (hay they shoulda added, "EVEN WHEN AGITATED", eh?) so I guess this represents some truth in advertising -- at least to a depth of two feet or so...

Thanks again Brucie!

I'll wager the spin cycle surely pushed the pressure up a bit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
On the upcoming cold winter nights, I'll have a hand or head warmer.
Very co.... errrrr Warm.
Is it here yet?
I hear the mailman now...
Nope only bills!!

Tom you certainly have a great sense of humor. Just for that I'll ship yours out on the next batch!

My first reaction was that Mr Bulk had somehow snuck a 5 watter into that diminutive package; it’s that bright. Charlie, at the rate you keep pushing the envelope you’ll have to open your own stationery store

Charlie , thanks for moving me up ahead of the other guys.....
Sheesh
Now they're gonna be angry with me.

Re: Baby Pin IS waterproof!-at least Washing Machi

Norm, you got yours already?

Tom, naw, they won't be angry -- you're all in the same batch!

This afternoon. In addition to being incredibly bright it's a very cute package with a lockable recessed tailswitch. Too bad Streamlight didn't work that into their TL series.

Great to hear you got it safely, Norm -- and now I demand one of those fabulous detailed reviews of yours!

Re: Baby Pin IS waterproof!-at least Washing Machi

I used my Baby Pin again last night, and I just have to emphasise just how powerful and tiny this light is!

I used this powerful tiny light for about 45 minutes, and it just constantly amazed me just how bright this tiny little light was!

I know I am repeating myself, but that is what I did last night, repeat myself over and over again. Here were my thoughts last night, while walking my dog in total darkness:

Damm, this is one bright light, I cant believe it is a one watter!
(staring in direction of light beam for 2 minutes)
Dad-gum, this is one tiny little light that is putting out SOOO much light, I can't believe it!
(again with the staring in silence)
MAN, this is like being in a Star Trek episode, this tiny little light, putting out SOOO MUCH light!
AND it is wide, and pure white too!

Sorry to repeat myself, but you just have to see this light to believe it!

Re: Baby Pin IS waterproof!-at least Washing Machi

a VERY nice little beast! it is now my second brightest 1W light I ever had ... thanx Charlie!

Re: Baby Pin IS waterproof!-at least Washing Machi

definitely, V8!
it kills my Arc LSH / R3J 363mA and even (but barely) my LGI-LE.
It has a very narrow beam though ...

Re: Baby Pin IS waterproof!-at least Washing Machi

BuddTX, uh -- I think you're repeating yourself -- which is just fine with me (as long as you keep heaping on the accolades!). Thanks.

Bernie, "Second" brightest? CUT-OFF!!! (But seriously, what is your first brightest?)

Pete, what everybody said. But your Super LGI should speak a dominant story once you get it...

Re: Baby Pin IS waterproof!-at least Washing Machi

BTW, just to make things clear:

I do have enough incoming parts to fulfill the balance of pending orders plus up to maybe a dozen more, and will be filling up the rest of the available slots via Paypal...

I will of course be monitoring new e-mails along with these related threads while I'm away, and will post something here if and when everything's finally spoken for.

Thanks.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
the brightest so far is the DB750 R2H McModule in a PM6, makes part of your own McModule project, Charlie! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
this one stomps the competition completely, but it is a bit unfair to compare because it is much much bigger and that energy load would cook the little Baby Pin.
This small guy really is a killer!
