Over in the Gadgets and Gear section at Bladeforums, there was talk of a backswitch for the 2AA MiniMag. It's a replacement cap I think, which lets you turn the light on and off via the cap. Would anyone know where I could pick it up in Canada? Or better yet, are there any good Canadian flashlight places? All the goodies seem to be only available in the States.

You might try a brinkman dealer, they used to make a AA flashlight with a pressure switch on constant on tail cap for their lights that also fits the maglite AA's. I bought a couple of these for that reason, but in all honesty I liked the whole flashlight better so I just kept em

Same query, but for the UK.
I saw these on the Department Services site, flashlights section,

AM2A666 Mini Mag-Lite AA Police/Military Backswitch 3.77

Service Kits
AM3A064 Mini Mag-Lite AAA Service Kit 15.60
AM2A064 Mini Mag-Lite AA Service Kit 15.60
ASXX124 Mag-Lite D /C Cell Service Kit 39.00
AK3A094 Solitaire Service Kit 15.60

How do they work, and what are they / what colours / what do they contain ? It seems from the context that they are Mag-Lite's own accessories.
Puzzled, Lite-Lover.

About those military/police backswitches - are they the push on / push off or momentary on type? Does anyone have one that can comment on their quality?

there is a "backswitch" produced in germany that fits the mini mag..... it has 2 LED's built into the specially fitted end cap. one red and one White - it twists so that 1 turn puts on the front traditional bulb, the other way turns on Red LED only and one more turns on the white LED only............ manufactured in Germany - retails 35.00 US.

Doug,

try this page - I think you can actually buy it from here...

As for the lockout tail switch question.... I, too, am waiting on a reply for that. Maybe it's a tailcap that disables the instant pushbutton on feature? Hehe... no idea....

They`re made by... http://out-tec.de and I have one which I got from Toolshop- and I don`t see why you`d not be able to order one for yourself from their site.

See it here.... http://electriclights.tripod.com/flashlights/outtec.htm .

It`s nice, not blinding but usably good- and remember that the MiniMag is the primary light, its LEDs are more like longer burn time backup lights, or for close work. You use the regular Mag`s head as power on/off switch, and the "flashlight tuner" acts as a swich to select either of the LEDs or the main bulb. The red LED is very dim and full of rings, and actually takes more power than the white- which is a bit brighter than an Infinity. It`s not waterproof, there`s a potential leak round the LEDs which is a shame, but never the less, it is still a pretty neat accessory, if a little expensive compared to the prices you guys can get MiniMags for.
