I am often wearing a ball cap for one reason or another and am seeking a light that is better than what I have now.

Currently I use the following clipped to the bill of my hat:

The Nebo is ok but the run time is low and I can often see the PWM flicker of the lamp. ( similar to the effect some experience when driving by a house with LED Christmas lughts, or when you had the refresh rate set too low on your old CRT monitor) Otherwise the headlamp is satisfactory.

I also have one light similar to the following:
It is ok also, but the hinge got loose and the light would flip over into my eyes when I looked down at something.

Rechargeable would be good but if I had to swap batteries that would be fine also, as I have a plethora of aa and aaa nimh cells. I dont want to spend $100 on a light but if I had to spend $40 for something reliable I would not be upset. It has to go on the bill of my hat so it cant be a searchlight with a car battery hanging off it either.

Thoughts and suggestions ?????

I have a bunch of smaller torches but the one that most often goes on the cap and provides good light with decent run times is the Sofirn SC21. Not the nicest cri but works for hands free duty just fine.

Thanks for the input guys. I like the idea of the small pocket lights with the pocket clip that is reversible. The only down side is the loss of articulation.

That klein light might just fit the bill.... no pun intended. It has the right form factor, brightness, features, and run time. I think I might try one out.

I can't help with a proper head light recommendation, but if you wear bills / brims, you might like one of these as a backup for unanticipated needs. This is an all-'round great little light that lives on my key ring and I'd replace tomorrow if I lost today, but it's also purpose designed to serve well on bills / brims. I currently only do bills / brims here when there's way too much light, but if I wore them all the time, I'd still have to have one of these on my key ring:

I have a Nitecore HA11 clips under the brim. Runs on a single Ladda AA or primary cell.

For rechargeable ones, Nitecore NU11 is great. Also, Sunrei H150 seems to be the same thing. You can find them on Amazon. The hand-waving control is very useful when your hands are busy.

That Klein Cap visor light is handy if you prefer to run the light on primary cells. The tiltable light head is smaller than Nitecore/Sunrei too.

Thanks for the additional ideas guys. You prompted some additional searching and I also discovered the streamlight bandit. I now have several options to pick from. I like that many of them have a couple different brightness settings and max outputs at 150 lumens or more. Most are quite economical also.

Nitecore TIP SE
Nitecore TIP 2 (more waterproof, a little brighter, and built like a tank, but costs more)
