basic predator light

That light will work fine but it also depends on how you will be hunting.
Cordless is nice to have but limited run time & heavy. If you will have constant access to a 12 volt power supply then I would go with a cord model like in your link, it is lighter to hold also. Be sure & use the red filter & not put the light directly on the predator use the outer ring (halo) so as not to spook. Be sure not to light em up fully till you have a good sight picture and are ready. The opinions above are just that & have worked for me. By the way if hunting up close the big lights are not really necessary.
I have seen people use good quality flashlights & red beam filters.
Alot of this also depends on your terrain & calling abilities.

Looks like a sealed beam unit which might be fairly heavy, I would check on its weight.
7.3 amp current draw @ 12v means its a 100w, you'll need a big battery to drive it for decent runtimes

For this style of light, my experience is that a 2 pin halogen / xenophot globe of 30 / 50 or 75 watts is far more efficient in current usage and light output

If you're planning on spotlighting on foot I assume you will be shooting from a variety of different positions, the weight, balance & design of the light are important

Recently I've changed from red filters to yellow/amber filters with very good results.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the input! I plan on doing some out-of-truck hunting and some on foot. Mostly short term sets on a few agricultural spots where I have permission from the landowner to shoot coyotes, hogs, and crows (varmints in effect). I mostly use a Foxpro FX3 electronic caller but some of my buddies who tag along on occassion know how to use hand calls.

I appreciate the advice of only using the outer ring - I had not heard that before but it makes sense.

So far as the "2 pin halogen / xenophot globe of 30 / 50 or 75 watts" - can you provide a link to a specific product?

Again, I sure appreciate the help!

Joe

Here's a couple of links

I used to use a Lightforce 170 spotlight with a 30w xenophot globe run of 4 amp & 7 amp batteries, but now I'm using a Tiablo A9 and a Wolf eyes shark1 HID with an amber filter. These lights enable us to walk up to 6 hours without having to carry heavy batteries. But I have to admit the change wasn't cheap even though it was worth it.

Hey lightforce 2 what type of predators are you guys hunting down under that requires so much walking, that sir is hunting!!!
It's pretty easy here in Texas.

Hog,

I hunt near Waco. Give me a holler if you want to chase some yotes, hogs, & rabbits.

BTW (for all to comment). Would the X-990 be a good predator light (with a buddy or nephew to run it of course!)?

Sorry for not replying sooner Hog,
I'm involved in fox control programs. I'd class myself as a part time profesional pest controller my colleague is a profesional shooter so what we do isn't really hunting.
