Sorry if this has been asked before, but where is the best place to store batteries that are not being used? Someone told me the fridge is best.

Storing at low temperature like a refrigerator will increase the shelf life of most types of primary cells, and it'll extend the lifetime of Li-Ion cells. I keep most of my cells in the freezer, but encountered some damage to protected Li-Ion cells, apparently due to condensation when I took them out. So I keep those in the refrigerator. Alkaline and primary lithium cells have such a long shelf life even at room temperature, however, it's probably not worth going to any extra trouble for.
