I have had my Streamlight Key-Mate for quite some time now and I am finally ready to get four replacement LR 44 alkaline coin cells. Are all LR 44 alkaline coin cells created equally? I am just thinking of stopping by a Wal-Mart and getting some, assuming that they even carry them, but then I decided to check here first, just in case there are some that are better than others or in case anybody happens to know of a killer price on these somewhere! Also, just in case I decide to get more of these for Christmas presents, is the Streamlight Key-Mate the best in its class or are there better similar lights at this point?

Check Amazon, they have a 10-pack for $1.99. In-store prices will probably be $1.99 each.

I wouldn't recommend giving people that light because of the strange button cells. Check out the Streamlight MicroStream or Pelican 1910, both of which use 1 AAA.

You can probably get button cells..... AG-13 (same as LR44) at dollar stores for 8/$1 if you have dollar tree around. I wouldn't pay more the 25 cents each for them as you can ebay them for 10 cents each or less in quantity. AG-13/LR44 is the most common button cell on the market. I have a few things that use them but since I can stock up on them it is not an issue and the runtime/size of using 3-4 LR44 cells is more than acceptable for the cost in bulk. I typically buy 20-30 at a time and it lasts me 3-5 years as my heavier used items have gone to more standard battery sizes.

This is sound advice. Definitely buy them online. In the Netherlands it's the same as above for non-standard batteries like button cells or for instance CR123A batteries. In the shop coin cells cost about €1,99 per cell, whilst online you can buy them for at least a quarter of that or less. CR123A cells in some shops cost €6,99, while buying them online makes them €2,50 a piece.
