I'm thinking ahead to hurricane season. A nice battery powered 1-3 led desk lamp would be quite handy if the lights went out.

Suggestions appreciated.

Raven,

Maybe you would like to make something? Try picking up a wooden box, along with some LEDs, a battery pack, some resistors. Maybe some wood stainer too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

My dad and I made a LED lightbox, that runs off of 8D batteries, and has 11 5mm LEDs. You can have either 3 or 11 LEDs on at a time. It also has a seperate circuit, with 3x3mm LEDs on 12" of locline.

It's a really fun project, and you get to learn some things. Nothing like practicing those soldering skills either. Try not to burn yourself with the soldering iron though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

If you're like me and lack the skills to build something as described by IlluminatingBikr and Zelandeth, an Everled in one of those cheapy kids lanterns that use PR bulbs (I think Coleman makes a few) would be another option. The lanterns I have seen run on 4AA and so would make a nice compact area light.

I have seen a couple of led work lights, one of which was battery powered in a mail order catalog called Garrett Wade. They carry fine wood and model makers tools aas well as shop and garden accessories. Try www.garrettwade.com
