Here it is. This is the test light I constructed. Its a cree p3 through the cree 8* optic. The battery and switch and stuff are all rigged off of my 10w NiteHawk halogen single lamp system. My wife's digi cam doesnt do too good in the night time, so this is as good as i could get. The garage to the left is mine, and it looks like i have some mood candle light goin on in there, but its just 2 recessed lights with 75w bulbs. So it is considerably brighter than it looks which is the same for the bike light. Hopefully I will get the design dialed in the next 2 weeks and get some pics of the actual light and the sweet mount i designed and fabbed.

Looks great! Lots of light. I'd love to see your mod.

I am looking forward to modding a Vistalite Nightstick helmet light the same way. I just need to replicate one of the bulbs with a Cree ona good heat sink and still thinking of battery supply. Probably just use an 18650 DD or build a pack of RCR's in parallel unless I tear up an old 2-6cell Mag LED bulb (EverLED) to use as a Buck driver. I think that is how it could work...
Are you running DD or using a driver? Do you have to drop from a higher voltage battery, and if so, how are you doing that?

Oh this is no mod my friend. This is pretty much from scratch. But on this light, i am using a step down converter. The pack is the stock pack from my NiteHawk light system which is 6v (not sure on the mAh, but dont care). In the actual light I am gonna build (and also try to MFG for small time sales), I am gonna use a buck/boost converter and a 3.6v NiMH or 3.7v Li-Ion pack. So far I am well pleased with the performance of this light. It does not get hot, gets kinda warm when standing around, but you can still pick it up and hold it in your hand for a bit. And the best part, its pretty darn small. Just need to sort out a few nagging details and get some more LEDs and optics to try then we should be in bidness. I think that I am also going to adapt this light for use on my rifle just because I can, and it would be fun. My wife's cousins want me to so that they can use them for their airsoft guns. Hopefully by then end of next month everything should be sorted out.
