Hello,

Since I own a ARC AAA I think I am into flashlights ... :)

Therefore I read around CPF a few weeks now and
I'd like to know if there is an explanation
about this Three Letter Abbrevations like EDC,
AOL etc. I think after reading a lot of posts
EDC means Every Day Carry?

And what means a tactical light?

My native language is not english, therefore please be patient with my posts =:cool:

Thanks a lot
Ralf

Welcome!

"Tactical" light - I guess this means any flashlight that is designed or intended to be used in a Tactical environment/situation.

They would therefore have certain features or characteristics that would enhance their ability to be used effectively by operator in such situations.

Perhaps the most important feature is a TailCap pressure switch. The ability to locate and operate the switch very quickly without having to search for it. I do not consider a click switch to be "tactical" because in those situations, have the ability to have no light is often just as important as having light at the touch of a button.

The other very important feature of a tactical light is it's ability to output very bright white light from a small flashlight. Light that can be used to increase your advantage and be used as a tool.

The word "tactical" is over used in general I believe because very few people actually need tactical gear. Most people want tactical gear because it has to be superior in terms of quality and reliability etc.

I'm sure others will add to this thread.

Enjoy your time here at CPF!

There are differences of a tactical light such as being able to handle recoil, ergonomics of the ability to hold light in a combat low light stance, mounting applications and such. But mostly is the factor of using the light output as a factor of gaining the advantage of temporarily gaining the advantage over the opponent or situation.That itself is the prime selling point alone.Some features are better for the EDC as pyrex lenses which is more scratchproof and has better light transmission plus the ability to handle high heat.
I have a M2 Centurion/KL-3 HA-III as my EDC and I plan on picking up a M4 Turbohead or maybe the M6 soon for "massive" light.

Welcome to CPF, you have entered another dimension where you will never see things as you have before.......

Hello ralf,

In my signature I use the abbreviations:
AOL = Already Owned Lights
TBL = To Buy Lights

These are certainly non-standard acronyms. I use them in the interest of saving space in the signature.

Cheers.

ralf,

welcome to the world of flashlight-lovers :)

If you scroll this page completely down, you´ll see a link called "Acronyms" ( to be honest, it is on every page...

), where you can find an explanation for things like "EDC".
