Best “impress your friends” light?

What would be the best "impress your friends" light for under around $70? I have quite a few lights here but I am in the mood to get something new. It wont be used for an EDC or anything (my Nitecore D10 fills that need). I was considering:

1) Aurora AK-P7-4 $36 @ DX http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15691

2) EastwardYJ YJ-XFP7 $57 @ DX http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17591

3) Romisen RC-T5 $49.29 @ DX http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10452

I want something that can use 18650 cells because it will need at least 40 min or so runtime. Feal free to list other lights that may fit the bill.

My Collection:
VB-16 Q5, Nitecore D10, Custom LED Modded M@g (preatty old still using a LUX III), Original Golston 6W, a couple various cheap 1xAA things, and tons of other cheapo lights I got when I was in HK.

Edit: After reading more the Romisen T6 is out, still leaves the T5, YJ-XFP7. and AK-P7-4

Looks cool but its so big... I ride my bicycle to my office at the university every day and that thing would be hard to carry.

Husky 200 Lumens at Home Depot. for $26 after tax, it will at least elicit a "whoa!", a "Wow!", a "Holy cow!" or a "Holy Sh@#!" Trust me. It takes 2D's, and from at least one report lasts 1.5 hours min. D's are cheap, this thing is an "ugly as sin" conversation piece, and can put a hurtin' on anyone who decides to surprise you out on the street or in the bush. Just make sure you get one that has a centered LED. Read more about the Husky here:

just read this over at CPFMP:
There is no reason why a 2*18650 cells torch with a huge head got out-shined by an 1*18650 27 mm reflector Elektrolumens EDC-P7. The lights at DX vary a lot in quality and output. So you take your chances if you will get a good one.

Using my light daily. Just thought I'd let everyone know that I compared the EDC-P7 to my friends Deal Extreme 60 buck P7 flashlight he uses for a daily bike light to ride to work.

The good news- Even though his has a huge head, and 2 18650 cells, The EDC-P7 is easily 1.5 times brighter, goes further and somehow has a better flood ring for sideview.

I think a Fenix LD01 on 10440 is a very good WOW light. The small size makes it a stealth light.

Have you considered upgrading your (M@g)?

3C P7 M@g left, MTE 5 mode right. The MTE is roughly the same as the Aurora you linked to. (At least get the Aurora with the big head)

Do a search for the Romisen RC-T6. I think that is the only Romisen with quality issues. Can't remember what.

Currently my most used and most impressive is my Romisen RC-T6, but I paid $80+ for it on ebay! I wish I would have seen this deal first!

I have had several people stop me and comment or ask about it when my wife and I are out for our walks. It has very good throw, and a lot of usable spill. It's light and easy to carry. No complaints with it at all so far, and I've had it a couple months now. Good luck! BTW, it runs for an hour and fifteen minutes on 2-18650 without a noticable drop in output. I recharge after every walk.

LOD with a 10440 never fails to impress, you never expect something so small to be so bright.

The larger EagleTacs are the first lights I've seen in a while to create a buzz about their intensity, while using the standard batteries and LED.

Consider the Eagletac T10c2 or the T10L version. Very impressive...ton of light for its size.

I'd say a direct drive RCR2 light(or RCR123) with a current gen LED. Tons of output from a pretty small sized light.

If you want lots of output for a decent size and low price, The Aurora might work(reading the reviews it seems decent for the price).

you might also want to consider a EastwardYJ YJ-XGR2 (DX SKU 17382)

I received one from DX yesterday. It is finished in the darkest black I think I have ever seen. II throws the brightest center spot I have seen to date from any of the CRE X emitters, admittedly an R2. But if this light is 250 lumens then how can the UltraFire WF-606A put out 230 lumens? The Eastward YJ's umbra is brighter than the hot spot of the 606A. its hot spot is brighter than the hot spot of the Aurora you mentioned, indeed its low beam hot spot is brighter than the 606's hot spot.

I bought a EastwardYJ YJ-XFP7 SSC P7-C 5-Mode Memory 900-Lumen: SKU 17591 from DX recently. Well made but there is no thermal connection between case and the internal copper heat sink. Result - on full power overheats in 45 minutes and goes dim. Outer case remains warm - poor design in my opinion.

when a light runs off 18650 the size alone demands great output, but my friends are totally amazed at my Fenix LD01 running on a 10440 cell.

High output from a very small form factor usually gets more 'wow! what the heck is that' IMHO

I never get impressed with BIG flashlights. If i see a huge flashlight, i expect it to be bright.
Imo, its more impressive with a really small one that has the output of a big one. Just ordered a lummi raw ns 20/200 lumen with trits and stuff. That will be a wow light, atleast i hope so 😀 size+, looks+,output+ price tag ehmm -.

if you got 10 min, some pliers, and a lighter, you can make urself a tiny solarforce l2 with mce. i like to strobe friends with mine.:devil: Just bougth a smooth besel and now its shorter than my d10🙂
(unscrew the head from the body, and put the tailcap directly on the head. Ull have to rip off the spring of the mce drop in, and cut the spring in the tailcap in 1/2. use the lighter to warm the spring so you can bend it. (so it don't scratch the batteries.) Non reversible, but worth it. Runs now on a single rcr16340.
