Best 2C 18650 set up?

Ok flashaholics, I've decided that I want to mod a mag 2C and I need some advice. I want to purchase the 2C battery adapter and ring kit I saw here and also the high temp metal socket with high medium and low capabilities and run that with two 18650 Lions. So here is what I need some clarity on:
1. What are the best 18650's? I read that there are some you can and cannot stack, I just want protected cells that I can stack for the setup, and what's the best/easiest charger for the job?

2. Should I do the Osram bulb with this or is there something better/more appropriate for this setup?

Thanks guys for all your help.

Probably the WA1111 if you're using BiPin, and 18650.

Since you sound like you want to go with the multilevel soft starter, IMO you should go with something more powerful -- I'd suggest 2xAW C Cells, and the Phiips 5761, which will be about double the 1111 for output. You won't need the ring/adapter kit if you go that way, either (the AW soft starter is already smaller, so it should fit the extra length of the C cells with no modification)

where is the best place to pick up those AW cells? Also is there any brands to stay away from?

AW is the only brand I'd recommend for C Cells. His 18650 cells are also among the best available. He also sells the multilevel soft starter you were interested in.

If you're going to by both the soft starter and the C-Cells, I'd reccomend ordering from him on CPF directly. Alternatively, you can buy his batteries from Lighthound.com

From the other thread mentioned above they apparently have had problems with the [email protected] tripping the protection circuit in AW C cells. Other modifications were needed to get it to work.

5761 pulls about 5.5A which would trip AW's protection circuit in 18650's
Non protected 18650's do very well has been my experience.

An overview:

5761 7.2Vbat.~854 torch lumens (1331 bulb lumens)1185 10.8Vbat.~772torch lumens (1194 bulb lumens)

The problem arose with protection circuits even in C Li cells tripping with the 5761 5.5A draw.

In response to that several solutions arose. Northern Lights developed one solution the NTC.

Mount the NTC in the tail cap. Isolate it from the heat of the head as temperature state is critical to the resitance state. Use my tail cap modification:

follow the two links.
In this tail cap connecting device divide the circuit to upper and lower and put the NTC on the outside between the battery and ground. Cover the NTC and tubing with shrink wrap. You can keep a spare bulb in the center.
From post #133 on discusses some more about NTCs:

From Original poster:

I want to purchase ... the high temp metal socket with high medium and low capabilities
That circuit acts a soft starter. If he buys the AW multilevel switch, the 5761 will work with AW C Cells.

Are you running this setup successfully? Could you point me to a thread where it is discussed because I'd also like to look into it.

I recently swapped over from the 2x18650s to C cells and the AW switch but am currently running the WA1111 that was recommended in the other post. I'd be particularly interested in runtimes and bulb life. Also is the bulb diameter the same as the WA1111 or close so I can use it in a FM deep 2" reflector?

TIA,
-LT

Excellent, thank you. As for the length of AW cells in a 2C Mag I'd still recommend either the extended tailcap or extender ring. The stock tailcap binds up and is hard to put on.

In the pic below the AW switch and 2 AW C cells are right at the body threads. The right hand pic is standard cells in a stock Mag. They're about 5mm off the threads so it's much easier to put the tailcap on and there's not as much pressure on the cells. I've used the FM stainless tail cap and Download ring extender with good success.

edit: Forgot to mention that with the FM tailcap I can also carry a spare bulb just like in the stock Mag.

I just bounced a few PMs off of Northern Lights about the 5761 and he said it would be OK to post the links he provided as "background information".

Thanks for your input NL

Also got a message from AW saying the runtime on C cells with the 5761 should be about 35-40min on high.

I put charging jacks in my 2C AW cell that is why it has the spacer, the protected cells do charge in series and stay balalnced because of the protection:

If any links look dead, take you to the index, cpf changed once. So if you use the link in the search feature you may find the new address.
You also can look up my member info and click on my posts to find more on the 5761.

I use smooth reflectors and frost the lower 2/3 of the bulb as the upper casts no shadows and therefore I do not cut any lumens from that. I hear the deep does not need the frosting.
look at the frosting:
