Hopefully, this post is OK here. I just read a good article on "Which AA batteries last" on page 7 of December, 09 Consumer Reports. They did a nice little study on which AA batteries last the longest and give you the most for your money.

Are you going to keep us in suspense?
I have not seen mine yet but will keep looking for it.

Its a full page article. I will not do it justice, but the recommended brands are; Lithium- Energizer Nickel oxyhydroxide-Panasonic Alkaline-Kirkland Signature! Rechargable-Duracell I left out a lot of qualifiers, details and other good batteries. You will have to read the article to get the details. I am being signalled by my dog to go out for dodo duty! HA HA!

the consensus around the forum seems to be
lithium primaries - energizer of course with their monopoly
alkalines - whatever name brand or generic that works at a good price
nimh - sanyo 2700 and sanyo eneloop/duraloops
forget the panasonic oxyride batteries the price/performance isn't there.

I agree Best disposables are Lithium AA.

And the Best Rechargeables by what I read is the Eneloop/Duraloop

All the rest is Dated technology. lol What I would love to see is an Eneloop at 2500mA But I doubt that will happen or even be possible with the new design? Who knows in the future we may have a Nuclear AA battery as long as it can't be used to make a bomb. lol What a violent species we are.....

In my opinion, Eneloop are the best NIMH battery I've ever used!!

What we must remember, when we read these " for the general public" articles, is that Consumer Reports and most other magazines only evaluate the major brands or brands that the major retail outlets sell. Most of us on CPF only buy from retail when their is a major discount or clearance sale. Look at the CR123s- why buy them from a retail store for $5.00 for 2 when we can get them for $1.00 each from some of our sponsors! I only buy from retailers when I have a substancial coupon or Sams club when I can buy large quanities for cheap. The articles are informative for the general public but old info for most of us.

I rate the GP Recyko's as being as good as, if not better than, Eneloop's ..... and cheaper too !!

Thats good to know thanks.

But then if they did release a 2500ma Eneloop, imagine what you would get then? lol

SilverFox showed they'll do 10,000 mA if you really push them. The voltage does drop a bit though.

I was not at all surprised that they rated the Kirkland batteries very well. My issue with them is that they leak just like Duracells and the rest, and don't have that nifty replacement deal like Duracell. I think I'm officially through with alkalines.

Kirkland cells are made by Duracell with the same formulation and components of a Duracell Coppertop (not Ultra).

I figured as such, but Costco would not help me in replacing a product their batteries destroyed. I find it amazing that Duracell even does this as a service to their customers, and I applaud them for it, but the lower priced Kirkland's don't seem to carry that same piece of mind which is understandable. However, for me, the risk of a leaking alkaline is just too much to worry about.
