Guys my head is spinning, This is probably a very simple question but I am trying to figure out what brand and type of battery to buy for my Arc LSH-P. I have both power packs, 2AA and 123A.

I’m having the hardest time figuring out the 2AA solution. I’ve read several post and battery web sites and I just keep getting more confused. It’s the power consumption rate of the LS that has me worried. I keep reading that the run time can very based on the high drain rate. I am considering both rechargeable and none rechargeable.

What would you use both in rechargeable and none rechargeable? Where do you think is the best place to buy?

If any one can help me out with this I would really appreciate it. Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone.

If you use your light often, use rechargeables. If not so often, use alkaline. If you use it for backup, equip it with lithium 123 or 2AA.
Rechargeable: Energizers; also the much cheaper rechargeable batteries from the group buy (Dynacharge)
Alkaline: Rayovacs, energizer or duracells are all good options.

Lebkuecher,
I'll throw in another option that I've been using that's small and rechargeable for the 123 Pack, and offers somewhat of a decent runtime:

1/5A NiMHs...

But I do agree that for the frequent user who's looking for a viable, quick and cost effective way to run their ArcLS, NiMH AAs are the way to go. I view using alkalines as a cheap and readily available alternative for when you don't have access to charging up your batteries...

for 123 lithiums, the runtime is approximately 2 hours. for alkaline AAs, its about 1.5 hours and for NiMH rechargeables it should be about 2.5 hours if i'm not mistaken.

Falcon, I think the only think that justifies using 1/5A from AA is the size, right? Other than that, the 1/5A is worse both in terms of capacity and price.
just another pov

1/5 A is the battery with diameter same with an A sized battery and the height of 1/5 an A battery

When you can get ~1800maH batteries for about $1 each, I'd by a $30 charger like the Rayovac 1 hr charger and 25 batteries before I would get the MAHA kit+batteries. In fact, I have!

I have "Monster" rechargable batts. They are 1800 mAh. They do a great job in my Canon A10 digital camera.
Monster Batts

WOW ! 2200 mAh huh? nice. Thats the highest Ive ever seen.

OK... another stupid newbie question..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif
The greater mAh means more runtime,,, not brighter light... correct?

That is correct. Capacity buys you strictly run time. Bear in mind that ANYONE can make a label, so stick to name brands that you trust. Any 2200mah battery that is not a Sanyo, I would be a little skeptical about at first. Sanyo under-rates their batteries and tends to lead the pack.

I recently bought that same Maha charger, and I really like it. If you think that you're going to use NiMH batteries frequently, it's worth getting. You may be able to find cheaper prices at Thomas Distributing. Keep in mind that you'll be buying this mainly for the charger rather than the high-capacity batteries, although those are nice, too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. If you already have enough batteries, just get the charger alone.

Hey Andrew

Which batteries are you using? Are you using them in a LS? What kind of run time?

Thanks for your response

Right now, I'm using the 2200 mAh Powerex batteries in my Streamlight 4AA LED, in order to get a flatter discharge in this unregulated light. (For the newer SL4AA, NiMH batteries don't drive the LEDs any harder than alkalines do.) I use 1800 mAh Energizer batteries in my Legend w/ BadBoy. I've never really checked for runtimes, since I generally charge the batteries whenever I think that I've used them a lot.

Find out all about them from Here!

This is what they look like:

My McLux has yet to see a single CR123 battery (aside from when it came with the e2 batt)... It's been running off nothing but 1/5A NiMHs since Darell brought it over... And because it's seeing constant use every single day, I rotate a pair of 6 of them in through my Maha 100min cooker, and it's done in less than 30 minutes...

I won't use the 1/5As for anything else but the Arc LS 123 and the McLux, and to me, it's worth it than to waste a perfectly good 123 battery, unless I'm away from my charger... Only then would I consider switching out for a CR123...

It's not so much the size, as it is the convenience of not wasting batteries...
