For simplicity sake... would someone give me the difinitive answer as to what the best (6P format) drop-in's would be (besides the Malkoff cuz i can never ever get one) and exactly why they would be considered great?

Ive been outfitting my RCPM buddies with lights here for over a year now (and im happy to say i believe that they are the best illuminated detachment in Northern Alberta), but the cost of the BOG drop-ins ive been purchasing are quite high. Ill continue to get them if its indicated that the quality is well worth the price as opposed to a cheaper Solarforce or other. Ive always tried to get them the best because when they need their lights to work, they 'really' need them to work. But if there is a cheaper drop-in thats not noticeably different from the BOG, id consider trying one of them.

Thanks

Dano

You have to define "best." Do you mean brightest, best warranty, highest uality, best overall value, etc...?

For a lot less than a BOG, you can get the surefire P60L and you'd have a great warranty.

The DX 6090 is hard to beat, especially for the price. It's a little brighter and whiter than the surefre too, but might require you to cut a little bi off the main spring (easy to do).

Maybe wait til later in the year to see what the P61L looks like? Or wait till DX comes out with a really decent Q5 single mode?

I didn't have to do any spring cutting. It fit perfect. No rattle or flickering. It will require modifying for the G2 though. It will need about half as much spring.

By best i mean brightest and most reliable. Ive orderedma few that were very finicky with even primary batteries (not lighting, flickering, dying), some with horrible rings, some with horrible tint etc.

As these guys ar Police, (rural bush police at that) they really need something that is insanely bright for distanced and up close illumination... as well as something that you willbe certain every time you push the tailcap will light up. Warranty aspect isnt as important (ive bought nothing but BOG's and have never had to send one in) and even if i did, i have a spare or two lying around.

The most important is reliability, day in and day out. Thats the reason they cary surefires etc because of the proven reliability,... i just want the same (as well as some extreme brightness) for the drop-ins that they are using.

Oh, and im also eagerly waiting for the P61L to come out, however that may be a bit, and cant wait for it... in the meantime, i need other options.

Never go with something cheap you will pay for it in the end. I would say stay with the BOG it was a good choice to begin with.

As much as I like the DX 6090, I would have a hard time recommending one to SAR or LEO teams without a backup. EVEN at the bargain price of $10/shipped. I think I am in the minority but the unit I received had (IMHO) some very poor soldering on the + contact spring. There was adequate solder, but they didn't heat/flux it sufficiently to "wick" around the base of the spring. The resulting cold joint was a weak point and my spring broke off as a result with just a little semi-careless handling on my part.

It was a 5 minute fix for anyone with mediocre soldering skills. So overall I am happy with the result, but again I dont think I would recommend one when lives and safety are at stake. Thats been my only complaint.

I have the DX R2 drop in coming, hopefully the quality on that one will be better.

Oh yeah! Dereelight makes a fantastic drop-in, but do they have a Q5? I can't recall. BOG is sure great though!
