Best Host for 3 X CR123?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Surefire 9P but I thought I'd ask if there is another 3 X CR123 host that would be as good or better? I have an extension for my Solarforce L2 but I'd like something that LOOKS right in the 3 battery conformation as well as performs well. I noticed in BigC's output thread that the host really DOES affect output to some degree also.

I prefer a commercial product that I can order from a website since I don't use Paypal.

I really like the 3x CR123 form factor, my ENC is a SF C3 bored for 2x 18500 and my car flashlight is a SF G3. Great flexibility, especially with the wide choices of P60-type drop-ins.
  • 2x 18500 / 2x 17500 for general use
  • 3x CR123 for backup
  • 2x AA for emergencies (particularly if you have a low-voltage drop-in for backup as well)
If you want something a little different, there is an awesome NIB SF D3 defender on CPF/MP for only $85. It's just like the SF 9P but has the clip of the SF C3. Getting to be a collectors item. Very very cool, I would have bought it already if I could have come up with a use for it.

Edit: I notice that the seller does take money orders, as you don't do paypal...

I don't have any 18500 sized batteries and I usually prefer primaries if possible but in the 3 X CR123 sized flashlight that option would certainly open some possibilities I hadn't thought of.

At the moment I have a Thrunite 1.5 amp D26 that I would like to run on 3 X CR123 instead of 2 X RCR123 but there are all sorts of drop ins (including the one in question) that would do well on 18500.

The CPF/MP is a great spot for bargain hunting and that sounds like a nice 3 X CR123 option (thanks for the suggestion btw) but I honestly prefer to buy new and I don't have Paypal so it's kind of a pain in the neck to get a money order, wait for snail mail, blah, blah, blah.

I really wish that CPF itself could open an option to buy and sell through them in the Marketplace using credit card as we can to donate. The forum could make some extra money and those of us who prefer CC to PP would have easier ways to make purchases from other members.

is an awesome combo. For about $100. And it will run on 3X CR123's.

Elzetta makes a solid 3-cell host. The tail is C-series compatible but I believe the head only accommodates Malkoff drop-ins.

Malkoff drop-ins are a little too difficult to get for me so that lets the Elzetta out. I'm not one for waiting around for things. I know, I know...all good things come to ....someone else in my case! LOL

I was thinking of the Seraph but the turbo head really gives it the edge. I doubt I would go with a hotwire D36 though (although $13.50 for 380 lumens? hmm) . LED's last longer and I prefer a cool color (I know, I know I just prefer cool white - odd that way).

Does any D36 reflector come with the turbo head? Then I could just screw in a pill I already have.

That's funny. I just ordered from nailbender but the sst-50 I ordered is for 2 x cr123.

No way to use wa-1111 or wa-1185 in Seraph right?

Solarforce L2 (1*18650) with RC123/16340 extension tube.
Solarforce L2P (1*18650) with RC123/16340 extension tube, but knurling are not the same on the body (matte black) and the extension (shiny black).
L2 is not the best and they are P60 hosts.

What really looks good is a Solarforce L2m with the 18650 extension.
Much better than the single extension on the end of a dual tube.
Having the joint near the front makes it look right.

I have a Seraph and L2m that I use with 3xCR123 but want a bored Surefire 9P too.
2x 18500's appeal to me for buck applications.
