Best hotwire thrower?

I want the best thrower out there, above 1,000 lumens.
I can power the light with 6-16 cells, as I'm building my own battery pack and using AA nimh (Duracell Precharged hold up to 10 amps swell).
Can anyone recommend a good thrower with the KD 15mm or 16mm (another site) SMO reflector? Again, power and runtime are not an issue unless above 22 volts and 10 amps (nothing above 150W i guess)

-I dont think Duraloops have 10A capacity, they are rebranded Sanyos (IE 2A). Unless of course you wire 5 of them in parallel.
-I don't think a 16mm reflector is big or deep enough to throw well at all... either incan or LED.

For throw neighther of those KD reflectors lens will give it to you. In fact, the WA1185 and ROP 3854H with those reflectors will be P7 like.

I have the 2.5in Throwmaster from fivemega and it makes the previously mentioned hotwires have a pencil like beam. At a less costs and a bit less throw Fivemega also makes a 2in deep reflector which I have and can tell you it will throw.

I will almost promise you that those big reflectors in 6V lanterns will throw better than ANYTHING you can put on a Mag body.

I have my Mag85 running in a 2" deep by FM. When it gets dark I'll take a few of my brightest outside and offer some thoughts on this thread.

Ok. It's raining outside which does not help but everything I saw was equalized.

The 2" Deep SMO by Five Mega does throw decent. But I see it as a more all around beam rather than ultimate thrower.

ROP HI in a regular SMO or in a LOP both seem to put just as much light out there on my "test range" as the deep.

My Favorite Incan is a Magcharger bulb driven by 6 NimH AA. It runs in an M2 MOP with small hole. It also seems to give very little or nothing away to the deep reflector.

I have an old metal 3D light from my Grandpa that is stamped "Homart". It has 4C cells driving a 3 cell frosted bulb. It gives away OUTPUT but not throw. If I could finagle a ROP bulb in this light (and may just try) I suspect the result will be good. I'll report!

Oh YEAH! If all out throw is what you want you need to beg borrow or steal a Five Mega 3" Mag head! I can't tune the beam in the old grandpa light but out at maybe 20 feet on the grass the beam from the 3" KILLS the beam from a 2" VERY LOP in my 4D w/6 sub C ROP.

Last thought. Just put my 2" SMO in the 4D instead or the LOP. 3" is still better, just not quite as much better.

Get a 3" somehow!!!

EDIT AGAIN: The Grandpa light actually had 8AA Alkaline against a 6 cell Mag bulb frosted. I rather like smooth beams almost to the exclusion of all out throw....

EDIT ONE MORE TIME: ROP LO (3854-L) bulb in 3" Grandpa light has an even TIGHTER spot and reaches at least as far as ROP HI but focuses the light much tighter. In any case you WANT a 3"!!!
