Best LEDs for 4C Maglite and 2AA Maglite?

I have a 4C Maglite and several 2AA Maglites which I'd like to convert to LED. I want to run the stock batteries, and have this be a drop-in modification, no wiring involved... However, there so many choices out there, some of which seem to be one-time offers on CPF... What's currently available, and what's recommended?

Thanks!

Randy
(I've been waiting for my L2 from Surefire for over a month now)

I prefer Sandwiches from The sandwich Shoppe and the Opalec NewBeam.

The Sandwiches are bright and the NewBeam has a 10 hour regulated runtime and then a red LED comes on letting you know it's time to change the batteries, but it will still give you a few hours of gradually dimming light. The Sandwiches run for about 90 minutes for the MadMax Plus to about 3 hours for the MadMax Lite to 50% brightness.

The Sandwiches are much brighter than a stock MiniMag. The NewBeam is not as bright as a MiniMag on fresh batteries, but after about 15 minutes they would be about equal and it will run for many more hours at constant brightness.

edit: oldgrandpajack has some L2s for sale on B/S/T for $146.95 and you would have it in a few days.

I really like my TerraLUX MiniSTAR2. I use it with the LDF lens that brightguy.com provided when I asked for no extra charge. Some people don't like it becasue it has rings in the beam if using a stock lens.

It has a really White light and through the LDF it shows 200 LUX at 1m with about 26 LUMENS out the front. Has a big soft diffused spot with good spill. Over 500 LUX with normal lens. Oh, I forgot, I have a modified reflector. Just grind down the back of the mam reflector or us a drill to widen the hole. It's a better relfector that the one that comes with the terraLux but you don't have to do that.

I use L91 Energizer Lithium batteries which should give about 7+ hrs of runtime but I want to do a runtime test in a few days.

i would suggest the new Highdome version of the everled for your Mag 4C and for your 2AA Maglites i would suggest the new MJLED(kit) that Lambda is selling..... do a search for MJLED or go to yahoo and search for "lambda lights".

For the 2AA, sandwiches from the Shoppe or Lamba and the new MJLED from Lamba.

IMO the MJLED makes the Opalec a thing of the past. It costs 4-5 times less, puts out more light, runs at least 3-4 times longer and is much whiter output.

Looking at the drop-in sandwiches, I could find nothing less than $50! Are there less expensive models available? For double the price of a ministar2 does it have twice the brightness?

Yes, it does... really! And the beam is so much nicer than that of the Ministar2, which has horrible artifacts and awful tint, at least mine did. I eventually sold mine.

If cost is an issue you are better off not converting at all. You can get similar performance plus a whole new flashlight and clickie tailswitch by migrating to the Streamlight Jr Lux. for ~$30.
