What's the best lubricant to use on the threads and O-rings of my Surefire E2? Any idea what they use at the factory? John

i believe sf uses nye lube, which is prety much the best /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

it comes in at least 2 kinds. dampening, and for electricals places.
the dampening is what you use on the orings, and ares where electricity isn't going through.
the other kind is for electrical bearing joints and threads. this isn't electrically conductive, but it will help prevent oxidation from producing resistance.

I use the Nyogel 779ZC on both the o-rings and threads. Like how it dampens the rotation of the tail cap. May feel differently with the cold this winter.

Where does one purchase the Nyogel online? Thanks..

I use Parker O-Lube for O-rings.

It is made for O-rings by the people who make O-rings.

I got a tube from work several years ago and still have several decades of lube left in the tube. I just bought over $500 of lights from ARC (Christmas gifts) so I'm doing my best to use it up.

You don't have to overpay for NYE. Any silicone lube will do. Most recommend a lube without petroleum but I used to use vasoline and never had any problems. There is another member who also has used it for several years without any trouble.

thanks, was_jih... I ordered mine from JT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

tkl:

Don't give out money saving information. Let these guys spend their money for Nye grease instead of flashlights.

That keeps the demand and the price of Surefires down for you and me.

Next thing you know I'll give out the secret to life.

i've also been using vaseline all the time without any problems...i think i'd be pissed if my multiple hundred dollar lights (like surefires) couldn't take a little vaseline without crapping out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just spent the last two hours trying to mix my Nyelube with vaseline so I could have the best of both worlds, but the containers kept slipping outta my hands, so I guess I'll just have to tough it out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's Friday!!!!

This is the stuff I use on all my lights:

Vaseline and other petroleum based lubricants will dissolve some o-rings. It isn't dielectric and could cause problems if it gets in the switch. Also won't help reduce resistance between threaded parts like dielectric grease. A friend once used Vaseline with his prophylactic and it fell apart. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif He and his girl friend had some tense weeks after that. You don't have to use Nyogel, but should go to your local automotive store and get a silcone based dielectric grease. It's not that expensive.

EDIT: I am not recommending the use of silcone based dielectric grease with prophylactics. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

oldgrandpajack: i'll go check out the dielectric grease /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Before I knew better, I used vaseline on a couple of my o-rings. Before I knew it, they stretched to twice their original size. Now I only use silicone grease. Got the smallest tub I could find from my dive shop. Got at least 30yrs worth at the rate I'm using it.

You can easily find silicon lubricant at the plumbing section of any Home Depot, if I remember correctly it's about $2.50. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
